Watch Obama smack down Clinton on Reagan and Iraq
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 11:06 PM by ProSense
Video: http://tpmelectioncentral.com">Tensions Flare Between Obama and Clinton at SC Debate

CLINTON: You talked about admiring Ronald Reagan and you talked about the ideas...

OBAMA: Hillary, I'm sorry. You just...

BLITZER: Senator...

CLINTON: I didn't talk about Reagan.

OBAMA: Hillary, we just had the tape. You just said that I complimented the Republican ideas. That is not true.

What I said -- and I will provide you with a quote -- what I said was is that Ronald Reagan was a transformative political figure because he was able to get Democrats to vote against their economic interests to form a majority to push through their agenda, an agenda that I objected to. Because while I was working on those streets watching those folks see their jobs shift overseas, you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart.

<...>

OBAMA: Now, you can dispute that, but let me finish.

Hillary, you went on for two minutes. Let me finish.

The irony of this is that you provided much more fulsome praise of Ronald Reagan in a book by Tom Brokaw that's being published right now, as did -- as did Bill Clinton in the past. So these are the kinds of political games that we are accustomed to.

1. I didn't say what you thought I said because I said what you didn't hear what I said

because I didn't mean to say what I said.

2. What's frustrating is the dunderheaded way Hillary acts like she can't comprehend Obama's point
I'd really like to hear her thoughts on the subject, on whether she thinks we need a broader coalition to get our goals achieved, or just a more polarized, fervent minority. I know which side I'm on, but I'd like to hear her make her case, and she can't if she's so determined to pretend she doesn't even hear the argument.

14. she and Bill have done this several times now.
I hope people catch on pretty soon. They deliberately misquote something Obama says, making it sound close to it, but changing a key word-- and then attacking that false statement. Like he says he's not good at running a bureaucracy, and then she says that he says he's not good at running a government! But the sheeple won't know that, and that's what makes me mad. It's so Rovian and it's disgusting.

13. She becomes indignant when she is challenged...
She was brash, angry and she appeared vindictive.

She screamed through most of the exchanges with Obama,
while he held his ground and was dignified. He showed
emotion and got his points in--and was firm. Whereas
she appeared combative and condescending.

20. Exactly
I think that Obama, like Kerry, has the ability to stay cool when attacked. It is an enormous asset in a fight like this. HRC is not as bad as Bill Clinton would be in a similar nasty debate, but her anger shows. It also pushes her into sounding like a strict vice prinipal in a junior high school scolding naughty students acting out in an auditorium. (This is not sexist - I'm old enough my jr high vice principle was male, as they all were then. I was also never among the misbehaving kids.)

7. Obama dominated there and Hillary clearly looked like a female Karl Rove losing
a debate. Pathetic!

9. See, I didn't see that.
She knew what he'd say. I think she wanted him to say it about Republicans rather than Reagan (she's right that she didn't say Reagan), but she got him on the defensive, made him talk about it, reinforcing the suspicion knowing that Democrats in primary season are not in the mood for compromising with Republicans.

A female Karl Rove -- in some ways, yes, maybe so. But I don't think she was losing there.

8. Obama lied

OBAMA now: Hillary, we just had the tape. You just said that I complimented the Republican ideas. That is not true.

OBAMA then: Obama : I think it's fair to say that the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10-15 years in the sense ...

While Obama tries to fully qualify that statement now, he didn't then. It was a complement then. He is ling now.

16. Obama lied. He absolutely commended Reagan's legacy and tried to cover it up.
The man never takes responsibility for anything. And on top of that... he ain't no Slick Willie. He's just an arrogant prick.
