1. I thought much of it was true years ago.
I don't recall all of the movie but I do remember some things. First, the candidate was a womanizer and his wife had a fit about it. I have no doubts that is true.
Second, the candidate talks about selling out as the price of getting into the game. (Those weren't his words but that was the idea.) I have no doubts that both Clintons believe that.
What parts do you have doubts about?

6. What do you mean "corrupt?"
I don't remember the Movie portraying the candidate as taking money for favors. Did that happen in the money? Or do you define corrupt differently?
I would call the candidate in that movie cynical, not corrupt.

That was my reading, as well
and I find that sort of cynicism rampant in politics at all levels.

After all, unless you're one of those true believers out there, do you really trust any of them on either side farther than you can throw them?

I don't, which is why I want a restoration of our constitutional government with its checks and balances.

3. Agree, sweets
I was such a schnook. I wasted so much affection on Bill Clinton over the years and no, I didn't believe Primary Colors was based on truth, either.

5. during the impeachment, i defended him
and argued with family, friends, neighbors. i didn't doubt what happened with monica. i just felt it was a personal thing.

8. What about now?
Do you not think it was a personal thing anymore?
Or has other information changed that for you?

(Tone = curious, not confrontational!) :)

9. i still think it was a personal thing.
i just don't like the way bill is acting. it's fine to campaign for your wife, but to take on her opponent? i don't like the way he's acting.

i never thought i would say this but bill clinton is getting on my nerves and i'm starting to dislike him.

12. Political fisticuffs
where the public has real concerns over who is going to represent the country for the next four or eight years is not personal as that thing with Lewinsky. I, too, thought it was blown all out of proportion, and solely to get Clinton out of the White House.

Further, I still wonder if Monica's hanging around his office wasn't the symptom of a set up by that well-described "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy." I've been wondering lately if Bill's vicious -- and very sophisticated -- sniping at Obama isn't an attempt to make it up to Hillary who did stand by him through that mess. And the more it looks like she's getting overrun, the harder Bill works at it. It's a real possibility, I think.

16. you could be right.
vast wing conspiracy? re monica. i think she did what she did because she wanted to. she told friends when she got the job that she "was going to get her presidential knee pads".

unfortunately, it's turned out badly for her. barbara walters just said the other day that she stays in touch with monica and even though she's gotten her master's degree, she can't find a job.

linda tripp should have kept her big mouth shut. didn't work out too well for her either.

10. I thought it was a fantastic movie.
if memory serves, the anonymous writer for this was Joe Klein? it was supposed to be a dirty exposé on the goings on in the campaign. Although there was much in there that was not very flattering to the Clintons, true or not I don't know - some is quite believeable imho - but overall I felt it somehow positive of them in a strange way.

Makes me wish they were more like how they were portrayed in the movie. ;)

some really kick ass humour in it. billy bob thornton, and the wonderful kathy bates. big recommend.

11. HBO was showing the movie last week-end.
It was a well-done movie. I was stunned to find out the Billy Bob character was supposed to be Carville. Well, not really.

15. Trivia: John Travolta softened his portrayal of Clinton for Scientology.
He and Bill Clinton made a deal where Travolta would portray "Stanton" (Clinton) more favorably, and Bill Clinton would have the German government recognize Scientology as a religion.

Travolta spoke about this in an interview.
