Get a grip DUers!
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 03:52 PM by EffieBlack
The Clinton supporters hate the Obama supporters, the Obama supporters hate the Clinton supporters. The Edwards supporters hate either or both, depending on various factors.

To read your posts, it sounds as if you plan to fight to the death and if your candidate doesn't get the nomination, many of you are threatening to bolt.

But you know what? The candidates you support seem to understand better than you that even the most heartfelt and hard-fought races are political, not personal. As heated as this race has gotten, when the candidates take a timeout, they are always cordial, friendly, and seem to actually like each other. And they also know that political campaigns - especially primary campaigns, no matter how bitterly they are waged, almost always end with one person winning and everyone else losing - and in the end, with very rare exceptions, they all shake hands, make friends, get behind the nominee and work together for victory. In other words, they behave like grownups.

So while you're wailing and gnashing your teeth and carrying on like a bunch of angry children, each of your candidates is going to eventually join up with the "enemy" and go right on about their business. You might want to prepare yourselves for August 29th, when you will see Obama and Clinton and Edwards - one of them the nominee, the other two their loyal and enthusiastic supporters and top surrogates (and possibly one of them their running mate) - standing together, clasping hands, arms in the air, with big, excited happy grins on their faces as they prepare for the fight ahead.

They will kiss and makeup and move on with their lives and careers and missions. What are the rest of you going to do? Are you still going to be bitter, nasty, hateful and angry - as many of you already are right now (good Lord, at this rate, many of you are going to be apoplectic or catatonic by summer)? Or are you going to grow up, recognize that politics is a rough and tumble game but it not necessarily a personal death match, remember that we're all in this together?

1. If you think it's nasty in here now, just wait until the day after the GE.
This will look tame by comparison.

8. That's the day AFTER the GE.
When each faction starts pointing fingers to explain why the republican won again.

I think you overestimate the impact of this forum.

AFTER.
If you think the Dems are a sure thing you are truly deluded. One candidate CANNOT beat the republicans. Another MIGHT not. Only one WILL.

It has nothing to do with this board. The fingerpointing begins AFTER the repukes win...

Oh, never mind...

You have absolutely no idea of what the outcome will be in November - your suggestion that if Obama or Clinton are the nominee, they will lose to the Republicans proves my point.

Funny thing - the candidate you are supporting doesn't even behave this way - and if he's not the nominee, he would not engage in this kind of naysaying. Too bad his supporters (and those of the other candidates) don't seem able to show the same maturity, savvy and class that of their candidates.

29. He doesn't behave this way BECAUSE he's a candidate.
We are less restricted in this forum in the truths we tell than any of the candidates can be.

Flat out, Hillary will lose the GE. Obama might lose. Only Edwards could beat all comers.

that there is no sure thing (even he's not one) in the arena he's playing in.

5. The few Republicans I know are positively gleeful right now.
They are celebrating the fact that a we seem to be tearing ourselves apart right now.

I think the media is enjoyiong it as well. After all if we do come undone, and the party spilts, it will be years before we see another serious African American or female candidate.

Unless the Republicans decide to run Condi. And I promise you, if they do, the entire party will rally behind her, and there will be none of this infighting.

This is a good reminder and all Duers should read it!

We are on the same side and the primary campaign will be strongly contested but the candidates will all be rooting for whoever wins to beat the republicans.

14. Exactly!
The candidates will go right back to being friends. The candidates' staffs - many of whom are all friends and who have worked together in the past - will continue their friendships and go on to work on other campaigns (and in the new Democratic administration - together.

The funny thing is that these are their campaigns, but they don't take them half as seriously or personally as their online support players do.

19. Exhibit A
You are so caught up in your own anger about other candidates that you assume that anyone who isn't with you is agin you.

For your information, I AM a HRC supporter. And an Obama supporter. And an Edwards supporter. And a Kucinich supporter . . .

In other words, I am a Democrat and I support ALL of our potential nominees. I have not endorsed any candidate on DU and do not intend to until after the nominee is selected.

So you can try to diminish my credibility all you want by claiming - with absolutely no evidence - that I am biased. But it won't work. You are simply helping to prove my point.

Not surprising. Hillary people accuse me of being an "Obamabot." Obama supporters accuse me of being a "Hillarybot." The Edwards people accuse me of hating Edwards or being hypnotized by Obama and Clinton.

I write positive things about ALL of the Dems. I don't trash any of them.

And I may be one of the dwindling few who won't have to eat my words after the Convention.

31. That's great
I have no problem with people supporting one candidate and advocating strongly for them. What I'm addressing are the vicious, slanderous spewing of hate toward anyone and everything that doesn't march in lockstep to the polling booth to vote for the candidate that poster has determined to be the second coming, while every other Democratic candidate is the anti-Christ laying in wait to destroy the world.
