Clinton promises upstate New York 200,000 new jobs

How'd that work out?

http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/11/07/senate.ny/

Clinton reached out to upstate voters, vowing to improve the economic picture there. She said her plan would yield 200,000 New York jobs over six years.

It included specific tax credits to encourage business investment, especially in the high-tech sector, and to reward job creation. She also called for targeted personal tax cuts, such as for college tuition and long-term care.

14. When she stops taking money from sources outside the US, wake me.
http://www.google.com/search?q=clinton+india+campaign+contribution&spell=1

When other countries claimed the US was interfering, maybe I should lay off. I mean, other countries are interfering in our elections, so we all do the same thing. It's globalization.

Ms. Clinton, I sincerely apologize. I can't change the world, so I may as well accept what it brings.

35. The link is disingenuous - it covers all of NY state, not upstate, which is the depressed area
she failed there - it lost 38,500 jobs.

It's not a disingenuous post - it's an attempt to redirect the board back to substantive matters. She's claiming experience but it doesn't seem like she any experience creating jobs.

41. First off, employeements rates are up and down.
Secondly, you are being silly here by focusing on "upstate only" when clearly her promise was for all of New York State.

Thirdly, recent employement rates have gone down, due to the national economy.

But she held to her promise.

21. Upstate lost 35,800 jobs in that period.

http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Hillary_Clinton_Jobs.htm

Passed 2 planks of 7-plank platform, "New Jobs for New York"
Hillary's "New Jobs for New York" platform included 7 measures to create 200,000 jobs in NY:
Create "technology bonds" to fund interest-free loans to improve Internet access.
A "Broadband Expansion Grant Initiative" to provide grants & loan guarantees to fund networks in "under-served rural areas."
Fund research on broadband technology in rural areas.
Tax credits for small businesses that created jobs in smaller communities.
Federal funding for "entrepreneurs who have good ideas but cannot afford lawyers and consultants to help them."
Funding for the Commerce Department's Cooperative Extension Service to allow it to subsidize non-agricultural technologies.
Create "Regional Skills Alliances" to provide training to technology workers.

She got two of her plan's seven measures signed into law. Despite promising to create 200,000 jobs, NY lost 35,800 jobs. Clinton blamed NY's poor job performance on GOP economic policies.

Mrs. Clinton released a new advertisement tonight that she distributed only to television stations in upstate. ''Hillary has a serious plan to create 200,000 new jobs upstate,'' the ad said. The announcer, citing remarks Mr. Lazio made here today, said that Mr. Lazio ''thinks upstate doesn't need targeted economic help.''

12. And thanks to Tata, the Indian company she's in bed with, she has already added jobs to NY...
Okay, only ten, but it's a start. Only one hundred ninety thousand, nine hundred and ninety to go!

Of course, Tata has admitted what a boob she is they are by saying the jobsd would go to H1Bs, L1Bs, et cetera...

Globalization is a funky thing, it seems...

http://heather.cs.ucdavis.edu/Archive/Hillary5.txt

Clinton tried to justify herself by pointing out that Tata had created
10 jobs in Buffalo, NY after Clinton had helped Tata established itself
there. Gee, 10 whole jobs! Remember, TCS has thousands of H-1Bs and
L-1s in the U.S. But even if that number 10 does grow, the key point is
that those jobs won't be filled by Americans. Tata has admitted that
most of the jobs it opens in the U.S. are filled with Indians. (See
http://heather.cs.ucdavis.edu/Archive/Tata.txt)

If Hillary cuts off al extra-America sources of funding, she might get some credibility regarding this, rather important, factor in Election 2008.

She took the University of Buffalo, and Buffalonians in general, for fools.
She is a big promoter of outsourcing, has taken lots o' cash from Indian
companies and then claimed she is against off-shore businesses (which
she and Bill had BIG investments in).

The Clintons could care less about american workers. I can't believe

She's spent more time traveling around and learning the issues of upstate NY than any Democratic Senator in my memory. Maybe that's why she won counties in 2006 that no Democrat has won in over 50 years. Apparently the people of NY like the job she's doing?

There are certainly areas in which Clinton can be criticized. Your attempt here is not only disingenuous, it's just plain stupid.

62. That linked worked. :)

I see an unsubstantiated claim:

"Mrs. Clinton released a new advertisement tonight that she distributed only to television stations in upstate. ''Hillary has a serious plan to create 200,000 new jobs upstate,'' the ad said. The announcer, citing remarks Mr. Lazio made here today, said that Mr. Lazio ''thinks upstate doesn't need targeted economic help."

But, to me, that looks more like heresay from the author used to hit Lazio with. There isn't any direct quote from Hillary at all.

64. Hillary could not have made that statement because it would've been physically impossible.
There simply aren't nor have there ever been 200k unemployeed people in upstate NY.

67. Yup. I think it was reporter spin most likely. Hillary is a wonk in the best sense
of the word. It's not a mistake she'd make.

68. She was clearly, absolutely, referring to NY state as a whole, primarily metro areas.
Any reporter would sit back and ask Hillary just how in the fuck she could get 200k employeed people in upstate NY when the unemployeement rate there, even if you count all the non-metro cities (which I just went through and did), doesn't even reach a quarter of that. It's just a joke of epic proportions.

70. Yep. I think it was either a bad reporter or deliberate distortion.
If I remember correctly her race against Lazio was pretty contentious.

72. Hillary promised to attract business & jobs to Buffalo

The jobs, unfortuneately went to India. Google it. I've posted this before. I'm sure
you must be aware of her outsourcing. This was premeditated on the Clintons part
to gain donations from indian-americans.
