LA Times: Obama said he bungled some Illinois votes. Repeatedly pushed the wrong button
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 11:07 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
Lots of troubling information here. "Bungling" is a way of avoiding accountability in Illinois.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obamavotes24jan24,0,4956975,full.story?coll=la-home-center

At least 5 times, the former state senator went on the record as having pushed the wrong button.

WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama angered fellow Democrats in the Illinois Senate when he voted to strip millions of dollars from a child welfare office on Chicago's West Side. But Obama had a ready explanation: He goofed.

"I was not aware that I had voted no," he said that day in June 2002, asking that the record be changed to reflect that he "intended to vote yes."

That misfire was not an isolated case for the young former civil-rights attorney first elected to the state Senate in 1996. At least five times during his eight years in state office, Obama cast a vote and then said he had hit the wrong button, according to transcripts of the proceedings.

The rules allow Illinois lawmakers to clear up a mishap if they suffered from a momentary case of stumbly fingers or a lapse in attention.

But some lawmakers say the unusual practice also offers a relatively painless way to placate both sides of a difficult issue. Even if a lawmaker admits an error, the actual vote stands and the official record merely shows the senator's "intent."

As I have stated in other posts
Obama lacks experience. When he was spouting off at Clinton with his "Walmart" remark there was a bit of clapping from the audience and a broad smile on his face. When Clinton fired back about his shady business deal in Chicago he became stressed but recovered quickly. If I caught his reaction then I'm sure others did too. The MSM is giving Obama a free ride.

9. I can see
making that mistake once
or twice but 5 times!
The whole let the record
show he intended to vote
the other way, reeks of
pandering to the opposition
or the reluctance as a newb
to take a stand and make waves.

31. The GOP will destroy him over this kind of stuff in the general election
They're not going to flog it now - that would be against their interest. Let the Dems pick their weakest candidate -- THEN destroy him in the general election.

I have one question here for Obama and Hillary supporters:

Can you please specifically tell me why they are BETTER than Edwards?

Edwards is a front runner, vetted, no negatives, strong, a fighter, and talking about how he's going to help US.

Hillary and Obama are waffling and flipflopping and going negative and talking WAY less than Edwards about the issues. Plus they've got a lot more negatives going into the general election.

For ONCE the candidate who's better on the issues (Edwards) is also more electable.

I think people are NUTS to even consider Obama and Hillary with all their weaknesses and negatives when we have Edwards out there as well.

And I think the MAIN reasons this is happening is because Edwards isn't rolling in corporate dough (so maybe he has less ads) and the media is DEFINITELY trying to torpedo him.

But he's out there. He's #2 or #3. He's not a long-short. He's a front runner. All you have to do is rally around him people, and we could take this country back.

But instead, you persist in letting the media define this as Pepsi versus Coke.

This is America's last chance. Go ahead and pick Obama or Hillary, and then pray you don't end up with a President McCain in Jan 2009. Edwards could WHIP any Republican's ass, and he'll work hard to take care of YOU, and instead the Dems are pissing away everything on two... I don't know what to call them, business-as-usual DLC corporate-owned waffling triangulating slippery negative types.
