What is "punjob"? Is that an ethnic slur of some kind?

I never heard it before today.

It's Punjab
--a region in India.

The insult is meant to criticize HRC regarding outsourcing of jobs to India.

2. It Was a Staffer's "Cleverness" On a Press Release
Referring to the BIG BIG BIG bucks that Clinton takes from the outsourcing industry in India. Much like Bill Clinton's BIG BIG BIG money from Asian lobbyists in the 90's.

PS - Its Punjab.

It's a region in India. The implication was that she was serving the interests of foreign corporations, specifically Indian ones.

but I am not familiar with Obama's statement, nor it's context nor intent.

6. Obama apologized on behalf of his entire campaign for his staffer's idiocy.

Senator Barack Obama said his campaign ''made a mistake'' last week when it distributed a document criticizing the support Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has received from Indian-Americans and companies that do business in India. ''The memo's caustic tone and its focus on contributions by Indian-Americans to the Clinton campaign was potentially hurtful, and as such, unacceptable,'' Mr. Obama said in a letter to Indian-Americans. The document, which referred to Mrs. Clinton as D-Punjab, caused a furor among Indian-American groups. Mr. Obama said he did not know about the memo, but added, ''I consider the entire campaign, and in particular myself, responsible for the mistake.''

9. The staffer was trying to help toughen Clinton up for the general election.
It's often cited as a valid reason for Clinton to attack Obama with falsehoods.

21. lol!
can't figure out why Punjab is a bad word or how it's racist...

fact is Clinton was a better Senator in representing parts of India - cheaper labour and protecting her big pocket friends than she was interested in protecting american workers.

10. Like all slurs and smears, it started right at the top, directly from the candidate.
Oh wait, that's only if it happens in the Clinton campaign.
Never mind.

12. it was referenced in the Newsweek article about him
"The Clinton campaign was justifiably angry, and seized on the episode as proof that Obama had abandoned his vaunted "politics of hope" and had offended Indian-Americans in the process. Obama was furious with his staff. "Some of my roommates in college were Indian and Pakistani," he told NEWSWEEK. "I had to call some of my best friends and explain that my campaign wasn't engaged in xenophobia." Obama held a come-to-Jesus meeting with his senior aides at his Chicago headquarters and vented his anger. "If you're even going close to the line, you better ask me first," he recalled saying. "That was the most angry I've been in this campaign."

17. Hillary jokingly referred to herself as the "Senator from Punjab."
An Obama staffer picked that up and placed it in a memo that hit Hillary for outsourcing.

Even though she used it first, Obama's people crossed the line, in my view.

take responsibility for their campaign's actions.
