Obama and his Rezko ties.. (quite damning)..
April 23, 2007

BY TIM NOVAK Staff Reporter

For more than five weeks during the brutal winter of 1997, tenants shivered without heat in a government-subsidized apartment building on Chicago's South Side.

It was just four years after the landlords -- Antoin "Tony'' Rezko and his partner Daniel Mahru -- had rehabbed the 31-unit building in Englewood with a loan from Chicago taxpayers.

It was just four years after the landlords -- Antoin "Tony'' Rezko and his partner Daniel Mahru -- had rehabbed the 31-unit building in Englewood with a loan from Chicago taxpayers.

Rezko and Mahru couldn't find money to get the heat back on.

"Senator Obama does not remember having conversations with Tony Rezko ( about properties that he owned" — Obama’s campaign staff on Sunday.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Staff reporter Tim Novak examines previously unreported government-funded, low-income housing deals involving Antoin "Tony" Rezko, the indicted political fund-raiser.Rezmar kept getting city and state funding, even as earlier projects fell into disrepair and financial troubles.

Rezko and Mahru couldn't find money to get the heat back on.

But their company, Rezmar Corp., did come up with $1,000 to give to the political campaign fund of Barack Obama, the newly elected state senator whose district included the unheated building.

Obama has been friends with Rezko for 17 years. Rezko has been a political patron to Obama and many others, helping to raise millions of dollars for them through his own contributions and by hosting fund-raisers in his home.

2. Personally I wish people would quit posting things like this on both sides.
Bill Clinton is not a racist, neither is Hillary. Obama is not an empty suit, nor would he screw over poor people in his district (also note the date of the article). All this stuff does is inflame people here. Nobody is going to have their minds changed based on this stuff. It's not reasoned discussion. If the campaigns can't keep it civil, there is no reason we can't.

3. When you are playing the "clean" politician

The fall from grace will be much harder because people feel let down. This is what is about to happen to Obama.

Everyone knows the Clintons are hard politicians and know their ins and outs, yet they still feel they are better equipped, at the end of the day to run the country, i think it will be better the devil you know.

Obama plays Mr Clean but Mr Clean is really not so Mr Clean, is he?. The Public hate being taken in, if they feel Obama has cheated them and made them look foolish, the backlash will be immense.

12. We shall see if the public wants their "clean" politicians to be perfect.
You may be right. If the trial reveals anything damning about Obama he is finished.

Running as a "clean" politician is a risky strategy, but it is one that Obama chose. It was not foisted on him, so we shall see how it plays out.

14. Barack Obama's Career Sponsor Allison Davis ..ethically challenged sponsor
Sunday, November 11, 2007
Barack Obama's Career Sponsor Allison Davis
The Chicago Sun-Times reports on the Barack Obama's ethically challenged sponsor Allison Davis:

As a young lawyer, Allison S. Davis was a City Hall outsider.

He criticized Mayor Richard J. Daley over the 1968 riots. He worked to integrate Chicago neighborhoods. And he fought to elect judges based on legal ability, not political connections.

Today, Davis is a consummate City Hall insider.

He's a loyal ally of Mayor Richard M. Daley, who appointed Davis to Chicago's prestigious Plan Commission. Davis has gotten deal after deal from the mayor, helping to make Davis one of the city's top developers. And Davis has forged strong ties to the Daley family, doing deals with one of the mayor's nephews and giving legal business to Daley & George, mayoral brother Michael Daley's law firm.

Now, Davis finds himself in the glare of an unwanted spotlight.

One of his business partners, William Moorehead, recently began serving a four-year prison sentence for stealing more than $600,000 from at least 13 federally funded housing projects he managed -- including two buildings that he and Davis co-own. During the period Moorehead has admitted he was stealing the money, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned, he lent Davis $100,000 -- a loan that has drawn scrutiny from federal investigators, though Davis hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing.

Another of Davis' business partners, former top political fund-raiser Tony Rezko, is set to stand trial in February on charges he demanded kickbacks from companies seeking state teacher pension business under Gov. Blagojevich, a friend of Rezko.

Davis serves on a separate state pension board -- the Illinois State Board of Investment -- that also has been under federal investigation. Davis was appointed by Blagojevich, on Rezko's recommendation.

Davis, 68, declined repeated interview requests for this story. His spokesman asked that questions be submitted in writing. Davis then submitted written responses to some of them.

Over the last decade, Davis and his partners got lots covering several city blocks from City Hall. They paid a total of more than $7 million for some of those lots. But they got many for free.
'He likes to make money'

Davis and his partners -- including his sons Jared and Cullen -- have gotten more than $100 million in taxpayer subsidies to build and rehabilitate more than 1,500 apartments and homes, primarily for the poor. His deals include a massive redevelopment of the Chicago Housing Authority's notorious Stateway Gardens, across the Dan Ryan Expy. from Sox Park.

It's a lucrative business. Davis and his partners have made at least $4 million in development fees over the last decade.

Still in the works: With Daley nephew Robert Vanecko, Davis is redeveloping another CHA project, along Chicago's south lakefront. Their fees have not been disclosed.

As Davis has become one of City Hall's favored developers in the last 10 years, he also has become a major political player. He has donated more than $400,000 to dozens of political campaign funds. His top beneficiaries include Daley, Blagojevich and Sen. Barack Obama, who worked for several years as an attorney in Davis' law firm.
Here's more on Obama's boss the Tony Rezko partner.Obama is tied in with some rather sleazy people. When Obama talks about a "new politics" you've really got to laugh.

7. It's damning to Rezko
How big is a state senator's district? Is it surprising that Obama wouldn't know that the buildings didn't have heat? (Most people living in slums don't think to call their state senator's office and complain about it, although they probably should).

8. No, people really can't bear the burden of what their bad friends do.
I have one friend who believes anything the neonazis say, and the LaRouchies, too. I have another who is pro-Palestinian to the point of learning Arabic. Nothing I say can change them and they are dear old friends I do not intend to lose.

That argument doesn't wash with me. The Rezko business would be dirty if he were Mother Teresa bribing Obama for favors to her nuns. The issue is the favors done, not how inherently good or bad these people are. Did Obama sell the influence of his office for $300,000? The only way to prove it is to show the quid pro quo and that never happened because Rezko got benched with an indictment.

Doesn't make the house deal less dirty. But it's most likely unindictable and that's all that counts in politics.

18. "Obama has given to charities $85,000 in Rezko-linked campaign contributions, "
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/01/by_frank_james_in_monday.html

"Obama publicly apologized for his 2005 property deal with Rezko, calling it "boneheaded" because Rezko was widely reported to be under grand jury investigation at the time. And Obama has given to charities $85,000 in Rezko-linked campaign contributions, including $40,035 last weekend following a published report suggesting that Rezko funneled a $10,000 donation to Obama through a business associate."
