4. I did a lot of work for Kucinich last go around
One of the things I liked about him is that his record always matched his rhetoric. He stood up for what he believed in even if it meant losing an election. I don't know how you can reconcile Edwards' Senate career with that in mind.

We've got a candidate running with a long progressive record that matches his platform and a real shot at winning this time.

In a sense it's a form of a hug from us to them.

There are definitely some in this thread who have been abusive (and I don't know whether they're really DK supporters or not) and I've resolved during the past few months here to simply place every single obnoxious poster I see on DU on "ignore". There has been so much crap flying here this winter my eyes are bleeding trying to wade around their crap. Sometimes I think we've been invaded with a huge flock of freepers pretending to be supporters of this or that Dem candidate, whose sole purpose is to sew disruption.

Anyone, for instance, with the unmitigated gall and audacity to call me a "vulture" for posting this welcoming thread can go fuck themselves.

So, yeah, half of the posts in this thread now read "ignored".

68. This Edwards supporter feels for you.
I voted for Kucinich in 2004. I so admire him. And I remember how heartsick I was when Lamont lost to Lieberman in the general. I mean, you could see it coming, the polls all called it, but still when it happened...thud.

You know, I spoke with a tourist from Ohio last fall, and I asked her about Kucinich. She didn't like him. She thought he spent too much time focusing on running for president and not enough time focusing on his district. It was only one person, one voter, hardly a scientific survey. But I suspect he's dropping out so he can focus on his reelection. If so, I sure hope he prevails.

Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 05:42 PM by KamaAina
I've always liked what John has to say about the 48 states (oh, right, we got statehood, I think :-) ). The sticking point last cycle was, of course, the war. Now that John, like millions of other Americans, has come to realize what a colossal mistake it was and is, I don't have a problem getting on board.

The one issue this cycle that Dennis owned was health care; he was the only candidate backing a single-payer system, as set forth in H.R. 676. All three remaining Dem candidates (sorry, Gravel) offer plans so similar you might almost think the same consultant had written them -- and you wouldn't be far wrong, except that the consultant, Dr. Ken Thorpe of Emory, did not actually write them but did vet all three for cost after the fact.

edit: and of course, John, and only John, opened his campaign in New Orleans' struggling Lower Ninth Ward.

And the big three's plans have left me uninspired. Most of them resemble the plan Nixon first trotted out in 1974. IMHO, Democrats can do (and have done) a lot better than that.

I'm staying uncommitted for now.

36. Voting for another corporately controlled candidate doesn't seem like a good way to memorialize DK
Sorry, but I know Edward's record, and I can read his donation list as well as those of the other candidates. Sure, he's talking a good populist game, but frankly his positions aren't much of a change from the other top two, and I don't trust him not to change his stripes once he's in office, especially with all those monetary obligations that he owes to the legal community and the financial sector.

Frankly, at this point the Greens have more of a chance of getting my vote come November than Edwards, Clinton or Obama. As far as the primaries go, I will still vote for Dennis whether or not he is on the ballot.

55. I'm not selling anyone here, just pointing out that Edwards and Kooch have major beef, ever since
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 06:28 PM by Occam Bandage
Edwards and Clinton conspired to kick Kucinich off the debates. That's why Kucinich sent his Iowa delegates to Obama. It's notable that he didn't really praise Obama, he just listed a few reasons why he didn't like Edwards.

That's why I think this post is irritating. It's so damn presumptuous.

67. You're not doing much about the "ambulance chaser" reputation, are you?

I mean, let the guy's chads cool before you bury his electorate, won't you...

85. LOL - no, but I do not believe Edwards can win it
and you could not pay me to vote for Obama - so Hillary is the only viable candidate left for me.

87. Edwards can win if people vote for him. But everyone is free to the candidate who best
reflects their views. :-)

78. After Friday, my support goes to Edwards, if Dennis drops out.
Edwards really needs to adopt Kucinich's healthcare plan though.
