Hypothetical General Election question

I've been thinking about this and i'd like a resonable discussion on this because I am worried about it if he does win the nomination.

Barack Obama has been runnig on a "hope and change" ticket since his campaign begun.

Lets say hypothetically he wins the nomination. What are his options for running in the general election.

Scenario 1 : He runs on a hope and change ticket.

Okay, this is all well and good but if the republicans succeed in any way as painting him as dirty, corrupt or not the person projected by him with all this Rezko stuff and its possible with the way Illinois operates, its possible not the only stuff, he will be taken to pieces and lose the GE in a big way by people not trusting him. This is the extreme risk with this campaign message.

Scenario 2 : He doesnt run on a hope and change ticket.

If he does this, then there will be almighty hell breaking loose among his supporters who fought for him and they may voice severe disapproval at not being the man he portrayed himself as, a let down perhaps. Not to mention Clinton supporters will be absolutely screaming for blood.

I mean seriously where does he position himself in running in the GE. Do we know or does no one want to look that far.

Serious answers please.

1. Hope and Change still works as a GE strategy.
He'll attract voters who normally don't care about politics, and the Rezko thing is too complicated - and not sexy enough - to have legs with those voters. The pundits will make hay of it, but most people really don't listen to them.

2. Don't forget he'll have a running mate as well
Don't know who, but that person can be a big asset when it comes to trust issues.
