They've been planning for Hillary for over a decade and have only been able to field these weak candidates? They know they will have a tough time beating Hillary. If all of a sudden some new superstar comes off the bench or Mc Cain croaks, they have a new deal, black vs white. Cheney/Rice anyone? McCain/Bloomberg? Something even worse?

2. Obama can not win period ...
Not every state is 50% black, not does every state let republicans cross over to vote for him
and getting 20% of the white vote (young, old or whatever) just isn't going to cut it.

In the GE, he will be lucky to get anything more than IL and even that will be shaky if,
by then, he hasn't come clean on the Rezko issue.

Party for Obama now cause it may be your last opportunity.

you're dreaming.

15. In head to head Obama is stronger than HC
against every republican

(But he's behind HC for Dem national nominee)

This page has them grouped

3. I can't see the repubs nominating ANYBODY but
Romney, at this point, especially if Obama gets the Dem nod.

Sen Clinton v Sen McCain would be the classic insider campaign that would probably go to the rebubs, but, an Obama GE candidacy would throw them completely off their game thus the need for the " Jimmy Stewart " guy, Romney.

Just my .02

5. I disagree
If Obama got the nomination, the Republicans would be sure to nominate a "seasoned" politician like McCain.

13. Romney is more Mr Potter than George Bailey
More Jim Taylor than Jefferson Smith.

In fact, I would definitely vote for Harvey over him.

6. I disagree to this extent..
It will be tough for Obama, but you have to look at certain facts.

1) During the primaries, dems have pretty consistently been showing up 2-1 over rebublicans to vote. Their side is (for a bunch of reasons) not too fired up. It reminds me in some ways of '96 and in other ways of '76.

2) If the GOP nominates McCain or Romney, the evangelicals will likely stay home. They are not fired up about either of these candidates, and they are roughly half of the GOP voting block. OTOH, if Huck is the nominee, the fiscal conservative/small government crowd will likely vote Bloomberg (if he runs) or stay home.

3) It's just as "too late" for Cheney, Jeb, or Condi to jump in as it would be for Al Gore on our side. What you see is what they have to work with.

9. I agree with your disagreement -
and add another - Hillary is, as stated, the one they've been planning for for near to a decade. Every vote, every comment she's made since 2000 (not to mention all the crap from before) is at their fingertips to throw at her, which is why ANY of that field could beat her. Whoever their candidate is, they have a ready-made campaign that will emphasise their strengths and her unfavorables.

With Obama, not so much.

And with Edwards, who they've managed to get ignored by the MSM for the past two years, they'd be flailing around trying to get him on haircuts.

7. Cheney?
Oh, that would be a blowout. High approval ratings and all. :eyes:

Besides, I think McCain and Romney might object.

18. Agreed..
...although it's be fun to see 9u11ani win Florida and throw this thing into total chaos for the GOP.

I think they are looking at McCain as their best chance of beating Hillary; the irony will be that he'll look like a tired old man against Obama.

14. Romney. Obama's success helps Romney.
His argument when Obama was the front runner was the rethugs need someone who can go toe to toe with Obama on change. Romney can, McCain can't. McCain was always better suited for Hillary.
