Is JFK like Obama? Here's JFK on trying to "work together" with REPUKES
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 09:31 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
The endorsement by Carolyn Kennedy says Obama is like JFK. This video proves that's just not right.

JFK had no use for unifying or changing the tone of politics with the REPUKES. JFK was a fighter, not a lover.

JFK's call to NON-UNITY

1. Funny, this is just the kind of distorting bullshit Obama was talking about not five minutes ago.
And the exact same kind of bullshit that South Carolina just rejected 2:1.

Considering Bill's good friend here was in all probability the "brains" behind the CIA operations that day in Dallas. :grr:

Might be difficult being friends and calling them names. You people don't know what you want, you just hear the name "Obama" over and over in your head. I believe that's a psychological condition.

through what other people said about him and what she read. I heard her speak about this about a year ago. She does remember playing under her father's desk, him teaching her to ride her pony and him playing games with her; but politics? Hell, no. I voted for JFK. I was a very young newlywed. He was awesome, but he did not play pattycake with the powers that be. Just the opposite, and probably the reason he was assassinated. It was a horrible time for our country, and I hope it never happens again, even to a pug.

In conclusion, I knew JFK, and Bam-Bam is no JFK.

Furthermore, Caroline certainly knows just about everybody in Dem circles, including Obama and the Clintons, and is in a pretty good position to know what they are about. It's ridiculous to suggest she doesn't know what she's talking about.

98. So you "knew" JFK better than his daughter does?
Were you raised by the woman he married, with whom he gave had four babies, in whose arms he died? Did your grandmother - who lived until you were in your late 30s - give birth to and raise him and later shared with you some of the most intimate details of his life? Was your uncle and surrogate father his brother? Did you spend your life surrounded by his closest friends and advisers? Do you have access to his private papers?

If so, wow. If not, I'll take Caroline's expertise about and assessment over her father over yours any day of the week, no matter how old she was when he died.

the style is similar. A hat would have surely given it away. Hillary wears a lot of suits, also, but they're pantsuits; so, no comparison to Jackie, who I never saw in pants. Of course, we only saw what they wanted us to see. Things are a lot different now. I take that back. I do remember seeing her and Caroline in Jodhpurs or riding pants.

BTW, the hairstyles of both ladies are similar. Check it out.

30. Without watching it,
I will guess that you have used a segment of one of his campaign speeches regarding Nixon. Because I like you, I will simply say that JFK and Nixon started their careers together in Washington, were on friendly terms, and that they had a pleasant conversation the day after the 1960 election. More, JFK called upon Nixon more than once while he was president, including during a crisis involving Cuba. Also, Nixon called JFK to ask advice on a career move.

Why anybody would keep going back and using the strategy that hasn't worked is beyond me. Change? No, there's no change from the last 7 years by doing that. Apparently, some people have no problem with the kinds of things that have been happening under Bush. There truly is no other explanation, unless the board is just full of undercover Republican Obama operatives.

43. I think they both considered themselves centrists of their respective parties.
Maybe centrist isn't the right word. Perhaps non-extremist. Nixon, after all, supported the creation of NATO (something his party was against) and JFK (at least early on) wasn't so thrilled about FDR's New Deal, if his diary is to be believed:

"Mr. Roosevelt has contributed to the end of capitalism in our own country, although he would probably argue the point at some length. He has done this not through the laws which he sponsored or were passed during his presidency, but rather through the emphasis he put on rights rather than responsibilites."

51. To an extent,
you are correct. But during the period between 1956 and being elected president, Kennedy began to change. There are people who say that Dallas represented a coup. But my father always said the real coup was Jack Kennedy being elected.

If you read Tom Maier's "The Kennedys: America's Emerald Kings," you get the feel of a politician with a plan to change society. And, for fun -- and in a good-spirited way to show how wrong the OP is -- JFK gave a speech about human beings making progress by being able to work with those who are identified as their "opposition" .... and more, with those who are identified as their "enemies." I am curious if anyone who wants to pretend that JFK "hated" republicans, etc, can identify that speech (his closest friends consider it his greatest speech), and then identify which democrat now running comes closest to it?

63. You might want
to consider who he selected for his administration. In fact, you could read Schlesinger's "A Thousand Days," and consider what he told his closest associates about making those selections,

For that matter, you would likely "The Kennedy Wit," which puts his "circus elephant" comments into a hilarious context. He was outstanding.

Now I am curious as to which speech you are referring to. He gave many great ones - I am particularly fond of the one at American University. I agree that from 1956 on is where we see a marked change or movement in Kennedy's philosophy and articulation of his beliefs. LOL @ your dad's comments.

I really don't remember. I am very familiar with JFK. He was the first President I ever voted for; his assassination happened at precisely the moment my blood was being drawn for my tests prior to my marriage; my bridesmaids luncheon could not have the band at the club, because the whole stage was draped in black. In my southern hometown, all of the windows were draped in black. I had a very memorable wedding and honeymoon. My hubbie and I went immediately to New Orleans to spoon, and it was in a very strange atmosphere, believe me.

In the years that followed we heard everything about his Presidency and history. I personally witnessed Oswald being killed on my TV live, and I could go on and on. But, I wont

46. How Dare You
Her father was murdered on a Dallas street as President of this country when she was a 6 year old little girl. She is the quasi-official keeper of the flame of his legacy - and you post this kind of drivel to REBUT Caroline Kennedy? Your constantly starting threads by throwing dirt is an example of why our politics must change. I am shaking with anger right now. This is SO low.

About the clip: Posting a hyper-excited John Kennedy at a partisan rally in 1960 shows nothing about who John F. Kennedy was. Read his inaugural address. THAT was the John F. Kennedy that Caroline remembers and THAT is the kind of President Barack Obama can be and THAT is why she is endorsing Senator Obama.

Proud To Be Murkin? Prove it some time.

And you post a rebuttal to "prove" she is wrong? It wasn't JUST the inaugural address, friend, JFK was a uniter and a classy individual with friends in both parties.

Edit: You clearly believe that things get done by name-calling and negative, angry politics. It does in some parts of the world - but not in America.

Watch the video, it's inspiring. Obama not anywhere near that league.

I'm sure she doesn't expect to get involved in the political process and have anything she says treated like it's sacred and off limits. Her father was killed in the service to the opposite idea.

The reality is that the Clintons are PNAC and Neocon appeasers, and JFK told them to go to hell. For that he was assassinated by the same thugs Hilly was counting on to pull her through the south.

But the thought that you'd even try to smear Caroline Kennery makes me want to vomit.

68. You still are telling her how she is wrong about her FATHER
You are basically saying that Obama-like types killed her father and that "Look! Look! Caroline, you're wrong! He's nothing like your dad!" That's disgusting. Who the Hell are YOU? I watched the video. I've seen it before, it's nothing new. For every video you post like that - there's video sitting in an archive that shows a president reaching across the aisle. Were you even alive during the administration of JFK?

80. Then you should be in love with Hillary Clinton.
She is a Senator known for working with both dems and pugs. It is even said that she is good friends with them; and, just look at Bill. He was considered to be friends with #41 and just look at what that got him on here. Do you consider him a uniter because he worked with #41? Funny, ya'll decry in the Clintons what you supposedly admire in Obama? I believe Hillary is even working with that famous pug who plugged her husband, you know, Newt Gingrich. Gee, what uniters the Clintons are. Perhaps you should be giving them some credit.

The answer to that, of course, is that Senators learn to work with each other, or nothing would get done. This could be why you say JFK worked with pugs. He was a U.S. Senator before he was President.

any untoward comments from them about the Kennedys. They were often the Kennedys' guests and respected them very much.

I mean, I tend to assume it's because both Hillary and Obama are strong candidates still. Teddy's friendly with both, and has worked with both. And whomever doesn't get the nod, will be going back to the Senate.

As the President of the United States, not just the Democratic Party.

Video of JFK, with audio of a phone call: JFK asks Ike's advice on cuban missle crisis

This country is bigger than partisan politics and egos, after the past 10 years we need to be one country again, imho.

Obama wants to be that kind of POTUS, I want that kind of President also, I hope you do as well.
