What are the chances that Al Gore will step in and clean this mess up?
Every day I'm wishing more and more that he'd run. With the Democratic self-destruction that seems to be taking place in the primaries, he may be who we need to take back the White House.
and really don't expect him to. He has transcended partisan politics to further his own causes that kept him out of the Presidential race. I can see him endorsing the Democratic candidate AFTER they are selected, but in this divisive race, I can't see him getting involved in the primaries.
and wouldn't this be the ultimate back-room, violate-the-will-of-the-people kind of deal? I love Al Gore and what he has done for environmental and other concerns, but the idea of foisting a person into a nomination when no one voted for him is a bit disquieting.
It would have to be after the first ballot. And if it happened it would be awesome, in my opinion. Old school nomination process where it is fair game after the first ballot.
This isn't about Gore himself; it is about the idea of putting someone into a presidential election who did not run. We elect people in this country; we don't install them.
During the first ballot the delegates (except for the super delegates) are required to vote for the candidate they are pledged to. So for your scenario to work there would have to be a deadlock on the first ballot with nobody getting a majority of votes. At this point that seems unlikely but then you never know. Stranger things have happened in politics.
Once upon a time I was truly hoping for a Gore candidacy, but that ship has sailed. It just ain't gonna happen so it's time to deal with it an move on. Seriously dude, give it up.
