OBAMA WINS IN SC LANDSLIDE, Democrat turnout crushes Republican vote total

Senator Barack Obama and the Democratic Party were big winners in Saturday's primary. Senator Obama cruised to victory with 55% of the vote, overwhelming Senator Clinton by a margin of 28%. Senator Edwards came in a distant third. Based on polling data, it appears the overwhelming majority of "undecideds," broke for Senator Obama in the final hours before the primary.

In one of the most reliably Republican voting states in the Union, Democrats turned out 252,000 more voters than in 2004, and crushed Republican turnout by nearly 87,000 votes. Republican turnout actually declined from 2004 by approximately 120,000 votes. Republican National leaders blamed the downturn in their vote on cold rainy weather. Irregardless of this explanation, this trend has been replicated in every caucus and primary thus far and bodes well for the entire Democratic ticket in November.
