You won't read this, but you should
That's the title to a diary over on DK, and it really got my attention.

While the country worries about what Obama and Clinton fight about next week, we have problems that are getting worse, and the media ignores it. We have some serious issues that need to be addressed by those who want to be our next president. Enough of the BS about who is using race or gender, enough of the BS about who should drop out and back one of the other candidates.

PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK AND READ IT!

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/27/11276/9684/292/444139

Lets get all the candidates on the real issues and stop playing games! This is only one of the serious issues that our next president will have to deal with, I for one want some answers on how they will deal with this, and all the other "real" issues!

7. Huh?
did you bother to read this? Or do you think that we should only concentrate on superficialities and not issues that will most certainly impact our lives?

Are you talking about? We have serious issue that need to be addressed, and we need answers from those who want to run this country, don't you care about how your candidate will take on these issues?

4. I agree! Iraq and Afghanistan have dropped off the news radar. It must be over.
Now who will that benefit? The guy who wants to start some more when he gets in the White House. We have such short attention spans it makes me ill.

9. You are right
And the media is doing their job of keeping things off the radar. I just want to see every candidate explain in detail how they plan to tackle these things. As was mentioned already, there are other issues like global warming, and the world economy that need to be addressed also. I think we should encourage all of the canidates to address these things now so we can see were they stand, and make them tell us how they will solve the problems.

We don't need more problems, we need solutions to the ones we already have. I know what will happen if we get another republican in the whitehouse, and I don't want that!

5. Other issues even more dire than the Taliban and al Qaeda
1. Global warming. It's happening a lot faster than predicted. We're already seeing droughts in many parts of the world. Watch for killer heat waves and crop failures this summer. And let's not forget the collapse of the world's fisheries and the drowning of islands-inhabited islands. This will only get worse as long as Bushco is in office, and probably for a while after that unless the folks in charge of the US wake up.

2. World economy. It's shifting away from the US, leaving us a 3rd World debtor nation. I'll be surprised if my job is still here this time next year, and I know I won't be alone.

There could very well be massive die-offs of people in the very near future, based on these two factors alone. Add any natural catastrophe, be it volcano, earthquake, hurricane or tsunami, and you've got even more death and destruction.

Frankly, I'm amazed that anyone WANTS the job of President now. And I doubt if any of the candidates are really prepared to address the challenges that face the next occupant of the Oval Office.

11. It isn't going to be a cake walk
For the next president, that's for sure. Bush has done a great job of screwing things up, and it is going to take a lot of work to try and fix things. That is why I really want so see some discussion on the "real" issues, and a stop to all the back and forth between Obama and Clinton.
