Poll question: Dean ('04) supporters: Which candidate do you support now?
I'm curious to know, for those who supported Dean over Kerry in the 2004 Democratic primary, which candidate you currently support (and why, if you are so inclined to give your reasons).

2. None. Not "undecided"...I don't support any of them.
If we only had a Dean in this election...

5. This is one of the reasons I included "other."
I know a few DFA members who are unhappy with the current field.

What are some of the issues that you feel are not being addressed (or being addressed in a wrong way)?

4. Gore was my first choice this year, but he passed on the opportunity.
Kucinich was my second choice and I stuck with him until this week when he decided he needed to fight another battle. I went to Edwards because he is the most progressive of the remaining three. I'm done switching.

6. I was supporting Kucinich...now I'll vote for Obama because I feel he's less "connected" ...
...than Hillary and Edwards.

7. You might find this interesting, Tatiana (a bit OT)
I don't know much about this process of analysis and don't know if it is reliable or not. It shows where the 2008 votes came from in relation to 2004 voters in New Hampshire.

Caution: Those numerals are not percentages.

This regression produces a number of coefficients that represent how much support was transferred from one candidate to another. For example, if the coefficient between John Kerry and Hillary Clinton is .73, that means that for every percentage point that Kerry had in a district in 2004, Hillary tended to pick up .73 percentage points in 2008. (…)

Clinton
.73 Kerry
.66 Lieberman
.18 Clark
.12 Edwards '04
-.05 Dean

Obama
.93 Dean
.45 Clark
.38 Edwards '04
.15 Lieberman
.09 Kerry

Edwards (2008)
.37 Edwards '04
.37 Clark
.24 Kerry
.15 Lieberman
.00 Dean

The entire thing is interesting to read.

8. Thanks WesDem! That is fascinating, indeed.
:pals:

So it seems like Edwards only picked up a third of the voters he had in '04. That, to me is a telling statistic and maybe illustrates why he doesn't have as much support as we think he should. Some of the people who supported him last time appear to have moved on to other candidates. Obama seemed to be the big beneficiary of the Dean votes in NH, while Clinton took the Kerry/Lieberman voters.

It's interesting to see that Edwards splits the Clark voters (like myself) with Obama, primarily. Clark's endorsement doesn't seem to have affected things much. It will be interesting to see how Kerry's endorsement (along with the added weight of Ted Kennedy) changes the dynamics in the MA race.

9. In NH, Kerry Country Is Now Clinton Country
In NH, Kerry Country Is Now Clinton Country

The pollsters and pundits are busy analyzing how they could have been so wrong about New Hampshire on Tuesday. They could be at this for a while, actually, as they try to out statistic and analyze each other. Everyone has a theory or an answer, and no one may ever figure out the exacts. It’s politics after all… But I did run across this interesting tidbit on the HuffPo from Thomas Edsall who notes, that in New Hampshire, Kerry Country is now Clinton Country and Dean Country is now Obama Country:
