About endorsements
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 08:30 PM by Ava
With all the stupid petty fighting that is going on right now about endorsement and such I just wanted to say this:

The only endorsement that matters, is YOURS.

Sure it's nice to know who supports who, but when it comes down to it you support the candidate you like most, not the candidate someone else likes most.

1. Thanks Ava...and you are correct....
Ultimately, it is, We the people" who make the decision. Endorsements are only examples of choices made essentially.

Endorsements kind of remind me of getting when folks buy special occasion gifts. Say it is a Wedding or Baby Shower gift, these days, one tends to just buy something off the "Registry List" instead of picking a gift on your own.

2. True, but I've already read that people have changed their votes
due to Sen. Kennedy's endorsement because they respect him so much. So some people are susceptible to endorsements.

7. Yes, you are right on. Endorsements are self serving hunches by self serving politicians
with their eye on their own re-elections.

10. Well-intentioned, but beside the point.
Nobody is talking about changing our own support; we're handicapping the race going forward.

11. Endorsements can help an insurgent campaign by giving
it credibility.

Few voters would admit to "changing their mind" because of an endorsement and that would be mostly true. However, especially for those less obsessed with every nuance of day-day-politics, an endorsement by someone a voter likes or trusts or identifies with can give a nudge to the voter from the "undecided" "considering" or "leaning" category. This is especially true with a new face type candidate like Dean or Obama.

Few endorsements of any type would sway the already knowledgeably committed so I agree with that.
