Time Magazine: 6 Reasons Why the Kennedy Endorsement is a Big Deal
And this is the first time I've seen the word "ginormous" used in Time Magazine!

http://thepage.time.com/halperins-take-five-reasons-why-the-kennedy-endorsement-is-a-big-deal/

While endorsements don’t usually matter much, Edward Kennedy’s does because:

1. He has a huge following with Hispanics, a big deal in California and other Super Tuesday states, and one of Obama’s weaknesses.

2. The symbolic Kennedy family thing — the ultimate message of change, viability, Democratic legitimacy, and youthful excitement.

3. The national press will be obsessed with the story for days and days to come, with no downside for Obama; the local press coverage when Kennedy travels for Obama will be ginormous.

4. It sends a message to other senators and superdelegates that it is OK to be for Obama — they don’t have to be afraid of the Clintons.

5. He has a huge following among working-class, traditional Democrats, one of Obama’s weaknesses.

6. He has a huge following among union households, another of Obama’s weaknesses.

3. I think Ted's endorsement does tend to confer a sense of legitimacy to Obama's candidacy.
He's no longer the young "new kid on the block" with an "outside shot" to secure the nomination. If a rank and file Dem like Ted is impressed by Obama, that has to carry some weight with traditional Democratic voters.

14. In an attempt to assassinate his character
To prevent him from attaining the power his brothers attained, and representing citizens instead of corporations as his brothers did.

10. I Think This Portends A Great Flood
A flood of people coming out of the woodwork for Obama.

The Clintons have become so awful in the past few weeks that most elected Democrats and the DNC want to put a spike through their hearts. Race baiting in 2008 is just too much to take - they have to go. And Obama's the only ticket for doing it right now.

13. Did Kerry's endorsement give him that big of a bump?
Not really. I would expect more of the same from Kennedy's endorsement.

31. Uh, no NJS
Kerry is respected but Ted Kennedy is one of the highest stars of the Democratic establishment, from the most prominent Democratic family with enormous media attention. Neptune vs. Jupiter, with the added benefit of Ted's active campaigning.

17. It's an amazing endorsement.
There's no doubt of that. I've been hoping for it ever since Bill starting attacking Obama.

But Ted was waiting for the perfect timing. And after an enormous victory, with Super Tuesday around the corner, is PERFECT timing.

19. Aye....The Democratic Party couldn't take it anymore.....
Since Hillary couldn't win it on her own, and needed Bill, and needed a strategy that was aimed at destroying anything in their path, the message is, they both need to sit their asses down.

Now is the time for new blood, or else the Democrats will be shut out for another 20 years!

22. All good things must come to an end. The money trough of the Iraq War is running dry.
Bush has spent trillions fighting a losing cause in Iraq.
We need to get out and stop the financial drain on this nation's economy.

Obama is the only one who said he is willing to do that, so he must be the right guy to back this year.

But, I'm hedging my bet by voting for Democrats in the House and the Senate to stop the next President from spending any more money or wasting any more lives in Iraq.

The war must end.

23. That was a while back before Bill went insane and started tearing the party apart
He may be reconsidering especially since his side kick on Ring of Fire is so upset with the Clinton campaign:

people on this board have gone over any perceived criticism against Barack.

28. Actually, they can matter
particularly locally. I know that Senator Leahy's endorsement is important to Vermont dems and progressives- as will be Senator Sanders.
