ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison -- who famously declared Bill Clinton to be the nation's "first black president" -- is endorsing Barack Obama for president today, an Obama campaign source tells ABC News.

This comes as Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., also announces his support for Obama on Monday, at a rally in Washington.

In an October 1998 essay in The New Yorker, Morrison wrote: "Years ago, in the middle of the Whitewater investigation, one heard the first murmurs: white skin notwithstanding, this is our first black president. Blacker than any actual person who could ever be elected in our children's lifetime."

The Morrison endorsement is expected to come via letter from Morrison to Obama that the campaign is releasing later today.

18. This is important in academic circles
I'm in academia, and this is an important endorsement in my opinion. Morrison may not be thought about much by the rank and file but she is highly admired amongst the faculty at my university.

2. "If you thought Bill CIinton was black, just wait until we elect Barack."
or something like that. :eyes:

I think endorsements from novelists are kind of irrelevant.

What might help Obama is support from (white) women politicians.

But I think most of us base our choice on looking at the candidates.

For example: if Kerry endorsed Edwards, I would still support Obama.

16. Actually, Spielberg, Geffen, Katzenberg are all in the Obama camp
Remember that nasty public falling-out that Hillary had with David Geffen a few months ago. Well, Geffen and the other Dreamworks founders have all aligned themselves with Obama. Along with most of the other serious Hollywood talent.

11. That settles it, I'm voting for someone else.
If Obama gets the nod, I'll vote for Romney.

I really hated every Toni Morrison book I ever had to read, and can't support a candidate she would find suitable. Oprah (who starred in the horrible film adaptation of Beloved) almost put me over the edge, but now there is no turning back. Obama is dead to me.

(50% :sarcasm:)
