We might really have ourselves a black President

Not to jump to conclusions yet but this hit me on Saturday night when I saw that Obama not only won South Carolina but doubled up the second place vote getter.

AGAIN not to jump to conclusions (truth be told I still say that the smart money is on Hillary to do really well on Super Duper Tuesday and end up with the nomination) but this really might come off. Also even though this throws the flow of this post off it pretty much looks like we are either going to have a black President or a woman President.

I can't say that in my 40 years I have ever thought that this could actually happen but now I do.

Lots of time and distance to go so LET'S NOT JUMP TO ANY CONCLUSIONS yet but I think people need to and probably are now actually confronting the idea that we could have a black President. I had to take a moment Saturday night and try to get my head around that.

I never really thought I would come close to seeing the day but I am glad that I can even entertain such an idea.

WOW just plain WOW.

For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.

He voted for Bush twice (he's military); now regrets the vote. He told me at first he thought Obama was a fluke and didn't think twice about supporting him. Now he's pleasantly surprised and will support Obama; not just because he's black, but because he really likes his message.

the White House, and it wasn't the place for "on the job training." Nevertheless, some voted for Obama, but said they would be pleased and proud to have Hillary, too.

Now, that's how I'm thinking.

Regrettably, John Edwards never caught fire, IMHO. He lost the last election (although I think it was rigged), and he, too, is getting painted with the broad brush of YESTERDAY.

But if he's involved in a brokered election, now THAT will be interesting!

I would also be SO PROUD of this country if Hillary becomes President.

Even the thought of a woman being president in my lifetime was unthinkable not too many years ago. The thought of a black president wasn't even considered.

Either one would be a major step forward and to be celebrated if it comes about.

Life is full of surprises and who ever gets the nod I just hope is the very best for this country after all BushCo has done to US and the World.

I want someone who will boldly fight for the working & middle class against the corporations.

I want the person who is going to put together a Single-payer health care system. I want for president the person who is going to fight against our jobs being off-shored. This is a presidential candidate who will work for ALL Americans.

I don't see that candidate as Hillary or Obama.

I'm jumping on the Obama bandwagon

obama is black, but he's also white. we tend to forget that his mother was white.

i told hubby "if obama does not become president, my heart will be broken".

And favorite of the Democratic establishment. Ted Kennedy may make some party bigwigs take a second look though.

Look at that map with rural NV in mind, CO is aleady split between Obama and Hillary. Factor CA Independents into the mix, who can't vote in the Repub primary. Then factor in Uncle Teddy in Mass, and Ned Lamont in CT. Super Tuesday could be the political upset of all time.

so why would you refer to them now.

Edwards is not going to win and trashing other candidates is not going to help that.

I am absolutely delighted to be so wrong! Whatever happens, it's clear that this country has turned a corner on race and the presidency.

As a child of the 50s, I can't believe it either.

It gives me hope in people that this gifted man is getting so much support.

I grew up in segregated hoods. I never met a black person socially until I was a college instructor. And even then, my peers and I had to conspire to retain those students.

What better antidote to Bush could we possibly ask for?

I can't believe he did it, I can't believe people dismissed it. I go back to the days of Shirley Chisholm, unbought and unbossed, but this man does not include me in his vision of hope and change.

What if he expands the military in order to expand US influence around the globe, as promised?
Or he decides that we have to go fight another war to protect "vital assets" (i.e. US-backed corporations)-- per his Council on Foreign Relations speech?
Or he reaches our "in bipartisanship" to the neoconservative movement?
Or he decides to expand faith-based funding and more of our tax money continues to fund strange "religious therapies" and support global homophobe movements like Watchmen on the Walls?

What if he shows himself to be a fiscal conservative and he enacts market reforms that hurt most of us--including Black folk?
