Whoa...NOW's Response to Sen. Kennedy's Endorsement : "We respect Sen. Kennedy's endorsement "

NOW's Response to Sen. Kennedy's Endorsement

Statement of NOW President Kim Gandy

January 28, 2008

The National Organization for Women has enormous respect and admiration for Sen. Edward Kennedy (D- Mass.). For decades Sen. Kennedy has been a friend of NOW, and a leader and fighter for women's civil and reproductive rights, and his record shows that.

Though the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee has proudly endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton for president, we respect Sen. Kennedy's endorsement. We continue to encourage women everywhere to express their opinions and exercise their right to vote.

41. this is a reference to the NY NOW president's statement
that Edwards and Obama symbolically and psychologically gangbanged Clinton. The DU poster here was making reference to that as it was a topic of conversation today.

25. Here is NOW NY. I can't find the statement.
I think they thought better of their former statement and sent out a retraction at the national level.

Maybe it's there? Or maybe they didn't put the Kennedy slam on their website?

i had posted this as a reply in another thread i am pasting it here.
Kendrick Meeks, a Representative from Miami (who happens to be black) was on MSNBC
this afternoon. He said that he was having breakfast in a South Carolina diner with Bill Clinton when Clinton was asked a question and Clinton responded with the Jesse Jackson l984 and l988 comment. Meeks said that Clinton was also being asked by the people who were at the diner and that they all hear the question the journalist asked Clinton and Clinton's response. Meeks said that no one was offended by what Clinton said. He said that the press later on took it all out of context and made the charge that is still running out there. Meeks said this question and answer happened early in the morning. Way before anyone knew the results of the South Carolina campaign and that to accuse Clinton of intending to smear Obama with it is just plain unfair.

From my point of view ... Obama surely knew that Clinton made no racial slur against him, underhanded or otherwise. Yet he said nothing. and he let the media run with it. And not only did he let the media run with it. He let Ted Kennedy endorse him because, "Obama is a leader who can fight the fight without demonizing those who hold a different view" ...and in my view Obama helped himself to Ted Kennedy and, "had" him. There are many ways to skin a cat, or of demonizing others with a different view, or of demonizing an opponent. Keeping silent about what you know is a lie, is one of them. Obama did just that. And only after the media ran with the story, and he was asked a point-blank question, did Obama offer a very meek answer in which he, "appeared" to give Bill Clinton a pass for the racial comment he made. Obama's technique is indeed underhanded.

so its not like Kennedy came forward all on his own. This is when deal are made, if you endorse me I will support this bill etc etc

27. Of course, he would be calling Kennedy, any candidate would
However, Kennedy decided to endorse Obama when he won Iowa. He decided to announce last week. He called Obama Thursday and told him he would be announcing today. Anything Bill Clinton said about Jesse Jackson on Saturday is irrelevant to this endorsement.

34. That means absolutely nothing
Especially if it was a poll of Dems, Repubs, and Independents. Furthermore, endorsements are about access to an influential person's Rolodex and getting them to do appearances with you. They have little to no effect on public opinion, per se.
