Maybe part of the Obama support is a desire
to bridge the racial divide that's always split this country. Because like it or not, independents and republicans as well as democrats are drawn to him. I'm certainly not saying that's the whole thing for any individual, but it could be part of it. And I'm not talking about "white guilt". I'm talking about a sense of wanting to move on from something we've been stuck on for so long. If true, this is a very good thing.

1. I think that plays a huge part, but I also think people are fed up with
what they've had to put up with. Though the idea of change is poo-pooed by many, I yearn for it, and think Obama has the right idea and message, when many of us are more than ready to hear it and to embrace its implementation.

7. Right.
Things cannot change by having people stay the same. We cannot resolve problems by remaining entrenched in problemed beliefs.

2. Maybe. Maybe people want to be able to eat, send their kids to decent schools
have fair health care and get out of Iraq. Simple. Let's do it. Your man does it, good for me. Not, he's not my man.

17. Aww, cali is getting a widdle fwustwated?
I would too if my candidate was trailing in, oh, 20 of the 22 Super Tuesday states.

"Get bent", indeed. No one on this board is tied up in a pretzel as much as you are.

The "race card?" So racism doesn't exist?
So, a Black person is "playing the race card" if he or she dares mention racism?

Expect a turnout by women voters being record highs.

9. me too. I am trying to stamp out sexism and Hillary is my woman.
She will fight against all odds, including the women who are against her because she is a woman and she is a fighter. Don't mess with her.

By merely saying/hoping/wishing it? Or will he mandate it?

15.  You missed the entire point. I'm talking about the
swell of support for him that seems to span the spectrum. Your response is a complete non sequitor to my OP.

25. And my point was, you can lead a horse to water,
but you can't make him drink. Wishing and hoping that comes to pass it a lot different than actually making it happen.

19. Pretty much, yes
The Campaign of Hope and Change...so much so that they were just endorsed by one of the leading, entrenched Washington insiders of the bunch.

Irony.

13. Cali- bridging the racial divide is a wonderful goal. I'd like nothing better...
...than to have a person of color or and woman as our president. But it has to be the right person and I have to believe that the person I vote for has the best plan to try and achieve equality for all and to fix the many problems we have. You believe it's Obama and that's great. I'm not so sure he can do it, and I'm still supporting Edwards.

I want to be able to support Obama should it come to that, but so far I am missing something that others are seeing.

And I am trying to see it, believe me, I am.

16. Again, this is not a post in support of Obama I'm just trying
to look at the national consious or unconscious, as the case may be. What does it say about us that there's been this groundswell of support for this guy?

14. I agree, and even though the SC episode seems to have...
heightened racial tension at the moment, I think that nastiness had to come to the surface in order to heal it and move beyond. I think his candidacy alone is achieving this positive transition. I hope so, at least.

I think the same about the gender issue with regard to Hillary. Lots of stuff coming to the surface to be healed, though we're in the midst of the painful stage before the healing at the moment.

18. I think so. But much of it is also to bridge the common sense divide.
People have more in common than not. This is greatly underestimated because politicians are so addicted to using politics as a wedge issue to exploit.
If you know what I mean, you know what I mean. If you don't yet at this point, I don't think you ever will.

This is a desire to bridge the vicious demonization divide that will doom us all to bickering as the world withers.

We NEED a uniter now -for the important issues. For our future. I really think so.

22. I think that is, in part, a desire to be WHOLE.
Not black or white.
Not blue or red.

This country has been focused on its divisions for so long. And it doesn't seem to have gotten us very far.

I don't think that these moments come along very often, which is why I think we need to take it.
