Is this a primary or a Robert Altman movie?
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 12:39 AM by Armstead
Maybe Nashville. Maybe that Paris fashion movie, Pied au Portre (sorry about spelling).. Mash?

Absurd comedy with a dark edge. Weird characters obsessed in their little side dramas but connected into a larger weird tapestry. Farce with tragic underpinning. Misunderstandings. Missed connections. Wheeling and dealing....Now, a handshake with cosmic repercussions.

------

Or perhaps....Stanley Kubrick?

The conclusion of Barry Lyndon. It kind of puts it all into perspective...

"It was in the reign of George III that the above-named personages lived and quarreled; good or bad, handsome or ugly, rich or poor....They are all equal now."

2. I think it's more like a Woody Allen movie
Quirky comedy with odd psychological issues thrown in.

23. It was a running joke in one of his movies, as I recall
It's been a while, but he played a director who was trying to be serious, and I think everyone kept repeating that. The aliens were the climax.

4. Armstead, this is wild coincidence, but last night we watched A WEDDING,
one of Altman's little-loved films.

I think it's a masterwork.

Anyway, tonight on DU is a lot like an Altman film, no question about it.

Bullseye.

8. It ran in my home town many years ago before the theater yanked it,
deciding it was too controversial and negative for us tender-souled theater-goers.

Yeah, I know that Kafka's not a director.

But Jesus, wouldn't that make the next debate fascinating?

19. If you want to get literary....
The conclusion of Barry Lyndon...And the concluding text of the film by Kubrick.

It kind of puts it all into perspective...

It was in the reign of George III that the above-named personages lived and quarreled; good or bad, handsome or ugly, rich or poor....They are all equal now.

10. I'd say it's been like a 1980's...
...John Hughes flick.

It's like the cast of "Pretty in Pink" has come to life and decided to
run for President!

12. Nope. Breakfast Club....
Or Sixteen Candles. There actually is a scene involving a handshake snub in that movie, I think.

18. YES! Sixteen Candles....
...when Anthony Michael Hall extends his hand. The other
guy goes to shake AMH's hand...and AMH runs his hand through
his hair--leaving the other guy standing there with his
hand still extended.

Classic!
