Obama snubs Hillary at SOTU
http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/1/29/04240/1321

"It's the talk of the town:

Chicago Tribune

Obama stood icily staring at Clinton during this, then turned his back and stepped a few feet away. Kennedy may've wanted to make peace with Clinton but Obama clearly wanted no part of that.
The sense in the press gallery was that Obama didn't cover himself in glory. Someone even used the word "childish." (Not this writer.) Judging by how much conversation there was about this brush off in the press gallery, Americans will be hearing a lot more about this tomorrow and in coming days.

Associated Press
Clinton, clad in scarlet, crossed the aisle between their seats on the House floor and reached out a hand to greet Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Democratic icon whose endorsement she had courted only to lose it to Obama. Kennedy shook her hand while Obama, wearing a dark suit and standing between the two, turned away.
The unity candidate unmasked".

2. Classy Teddy shook her hand. Snotty Barack turned his back.
That there tells you all you need to know about Obama.

9. I'm no Hillary supporter, but she did make the first move and walk over in his direction.
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 07:49 AM by AndyA
She shook hands with Kennedy and greeted others around him. There is no reason to believe Hillary wouldn't have shaken Barack's hand out of courtesy as well. Barack was the one who turned his back and acted childish.

This reminds me all too much of George Bush, who takes his toys and goes home if people don't do as he wants. And sometimes, he returns with missiles... :scared:

We do not need another President who acts this way. I want someone who can smile and shake hands with anyone they happen to meet, because that's what is expected of a President. Presidents should be above these petty, childish things.

4. Wow, very telling article.
It's the same mean spirited, childish behavior I witnessed from Obama at the New Hampshire debate.

6. I think this incident tends to show off that Obama speaking to enemies of our country
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 07:40 AM by Maribelle
is not something he is able to do, if the feels they are our enemies.

Obama plays an old high school trick, extremely un-presidential.

It seems Obama can only play presidential when he has a prepared speech to deliver. That is the opposite of what our country needs.

And off-speech his ers, ums, puases, and reiterations are positively juvenile.

7. Childish.
Glad our candidate was a grown up. As much as we have disagreed with Hillary's corporatism; as the lesser evils this family might reluctantly come around towards Hillary. We just see no substance in Obama's campaign.

26. AMEN to that. That's what I was hoping for, but they all clapped and rose to their feet
throughout the damn SOTU speech. Not as many times as the Repubs, but why, at all???
Made me ill, actually.

10. It could have been...
Her reaching out to Kennedy and not Obama. Therefore she snubbed him.

She's done it before.

13. That's clearly not the case
She shook hands with others there, too, but Obama turned away to avoid her. That is certainly his perogative, but he should consider how such things look at such a publicized event.

16. She went to the Senate
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 08:04 AM by MonkeyFunk
and worked with the same pieces of shit who tried so hard to destroy her for 8 years. And she won their respect and admiration.

She knows how to handle her opponents, and snubbing isn't one of them.

18. Oh really?
She's snubbed him before. I watched the debate in Las Vegas in November and she didn't even shake his hand there when she came out.

I'm trying my best to find a modicum of likability about her, But I cannot see it. Obama's sarcastic "You're likable enough." is proving to be true.

There's a bigger picture behind this photo and it could be interpreted a number of ways though. Nice to see the Hillary people wanting to interpret it as such.

21. You've read gossipy reports
of her snubbing him, and you buy them hook line and sinker.

As I said, she's been civil to much bigger opponents than Obama.

33. The problem with that is the fact I live in the UK
and also I'm deaf as well... I'm sorry the only gossipy reports are either from here, DailyKos, other websites, or my parents. Other than that... I could happily get my reports from People Magazine if you'd like? ;-)

I've only recently found a subtitled debate website (courtesy of an Obama supporter!)

11. Diplomatic skills?
Looks like Obama needs to brush up on the meaning of courtesy. We have come to expect this kind of behavior from republicans, but I expect our candidates to be above such things. I realize campaigning against each other can create some uncomfortable situations, but to show disdain in a face to face meeting is unforgivable and will most likely resonate with voters. It certainly did with me.

I give Obama high marks for biting his tongue in the presence of the author of all this filth.

27. Ahhh, manners.
So let's be polite to racists, bigots, war mongers, jerkoffs. Hell, let's all kiss the asses of Chimp and Cheney while we're at it because it's the mannerly thing to do.

Maybe not.

12. I fell asleep with the handshake...
and wake with the handshake.

Yes, it is trivial. But it is so nice to see Obama getting blamed for something after weeks of the Clintons getting bashed over every subtle remark they make. If Hillary wears a black pantsuit she's accused of reminding people that Obama is black.

25. Okay who wrote this comment I read there....
1. Obama saw the spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved nominee, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:13)

2. Obama fed 5000 screaming fans from a single bag of Cheeto's.

3. Obama cured a ham.

It reminds me of Senator Obama's behavior in the New Hampshire debate.
I appreciate the information for this previously undecided Floridian.

I suppose it is the heightened senses of the primary season. Though I just have to wonder what in the hell people are thinking these days. It seems they are losing sight of everything that is important and getting caught up in the bs.
