The flame game: We still win!

As other corners of the Net gape and wonder with disgust what NY State NOW president Marcia Pappas was on when she burst into very, very public hysterics* yesterday over Senator Kennedy's endorsement of Barack Obama, I started wondering if we'd reached some sort of tipping point, where the level of crazy in the blogosphere was surpassed by the level of crazy outside the blogosphere. Could it be that finally, we're the reasonable ones?

* That right, I said hysterics re a ranting, overwrought woman. She's got a history, this Marcia Pappas, and so far this month it includes accusing John Edwards and Barack Obama of psychologically gang-raping Clinton (you read that correctly). Still, yesterday's outburst seems to be the one that folks are noticing, and the first one that's apparently engendered any embarrassment from the folks at the head office, not to mention saner NOW folk elsewhere around the country. In any case, hysterics she is most certainly having, and she ought to thank me for saying so -- anyone who declares that a uterus is a voting tool should be fine to be recognized as letting the thing run her mouth, too.

The National Organization for Women has enormous respect and admiration for Sen. Edward Kennedy (D- Mass.). For decades Sen. Kennedy has been a friend of NOW, and a leader and fighter for women's civil and reproductive rights, and his record shows that.

Though the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee has proudly endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton for president, we respect Sen. Kennedy's endorsement. We continue to encourage women everywhere to express their opinions and exercise their right to vote.
