JESUS FUCKING CHRIST....enough already, OK?
I don't give a shit if Obama snubbed Hillary or if he holds his nose in the air of if she seems to have a shrill voice or wears frumpy pant suits.

Can we fucking get back to what matters ~~ I mean REALLY matters ~~ to us as Americans???

Like: Poverty, the War, the Economy, the lack of affordable health care. Those are some very good examples of what the hell is important.

The lack of a handshake or a snub is NOT going to get us out of the War, feed a hungry child, or get affordable dental treatment to someone with an abscessed tooth and NO money to take care of it!

Sheesh! Let's move on to REAL issues, OK?

5. Just had to get it off my chest.
What Obama did or did not do does NOT matter in the over-all big picture of things.

27. Off topic question:
We're thinking about getting a Scottie (my grandfather and uncle both had them). How are they with little kids?

29. Depends on the particular dog.
I have had Scotties since the early 1960s and I have only had one mean one and she was a rescue. Like any breed, they can have a mean streak, but I have never had this problem. They are not really lap dogs and are very sturdy...so if you have boys and they want to rough house, a Scottie can do this. They are pretty patient, too, cuz as a kid, I dressed my then Scottie in doll clothes and she tolerated it very well.

They are usually pretty calm and aloof and very loyal and protective. Most of my Scotties have been female and they will not let anyone they do not know come at you, your kids or someone you consider family. Basically a big dog in a little dog's body!

I do know that many articles on Scotties note they are not good with little kiddos, but I have never had a problem. My son who is now in his 30s was raised around Scotties and there was never a problem and he put them in boats and floated them in our pool and gave the male Scottie rides on his skate board ~~ man could that squat little dog balance!

The only thing is that a Scottie is like a little battering ram and they are strong as hell and they can knock a person over. So...if they are playing, some times they do not realize their own strength and could knock over a small child. That would be my only concern with a Scottie. But I gotta tell ya: Once you have a Scottie, you will be hooked forever!

Feel free to ask any other questions you might have! :hi:

9. Then what would we have to talk about?
One of the ironic things about the level of vitriol here at DU is that, when it comes to actual policy issues, the candidates have a huge amount of common ground. Look at the war. All three want to bring home combat troops but leave troops to guard an embassy and perhaps leave troops in the region for counterterrorism operations. They only differ on how long its going to take into their first term to get the withdrawal done.

If people didn't fight about the bullshit, there'd be precious little to fight about.

11. History has taught us that voters do not vote on what matters. Ask Gore and Kerry.
And don't give me the tripe about stolen elections.

Their margin of "victory" should have been large enough to off set stolen votes. But it wasn't.

So back to your premiss.....real issues do not put Democrats in the WH....otherwise we would be there.

13. Sooooooo.....this means that we should be at each others throats...
...as Democrats over whether Obama did or did not snub Hillary?

Geeeeeeeeez, IMO, we look like assholes for fighting over this. So what if he did and so what if he did not?

What the hell does it REALLY matter? Assume he did snub her? Is that unexpected as much as they have been slinging mud at each other and fighting? What did anyone expect? Faux air kisses between them?

don't even put Democrats in the WH!! Too many are so busy getting on band-wagons and waiting for their piece of the action, that even knowing they may very well LOSE the WH, they still have many "connections" to keep the palms padded!!

DIFI is someone who comes to mind for me ALL THE TIME! She makes money NO MATTER WHAT! And there are many more! Lieberman? Why doesn't someone start a list! I'm too fed up to!!!

15. You just don't understand. The goal is to sift through everything --
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 12:47 PM by ocelot
all media reports, blogs, interviews, debates, photos, gossip, notes on cocktail napkins -- whatever you can find as evidence, however minute, that your glorious candidate's scumbag opponent is unworthy. Maybe he/she rolled his/her eyes, or laughed in a way that could be interpreted as slightly mocking if heard from the other side of the room, or maybe he/she appeared in public with lint on his/her clothing (proving he/she is a disgusting slob), or maybe he/she said something that somebody else said they meant something that could be interpreted as racist/ sexist/pro-Republican/ anti-something you are for, and somebody even blogged about how terrible it was, so it really must mean your candidate's opponent is evil/ weak/ bad/ stupid/ irrelevant/ naive/ a corporatist shill/ a left-wing loon/ a useless asshole. Once you have "proved" the badness of your candidate's opponent, you can then bask in the glory that candidate's reflected light shines on your sorry little ego, now that you've proved your political judgment is superior to that of those fools who support that *other* horrible loser candidate.

Real issues are for people who don't pay attention to the nuances.

17. This is nothing new.
We are largely a fairly fickle electorate or so the corporate media tells me so.

2000- Sighs

2004 - A Scream

2008 (NH-allegedly) - eyes welling up

It's nutz but I think it is true to a certain degree that lots of people do make their voting decisions based on issues that are far less than substantive.

19. Republicans encourage shallowness and ignorance.
They do! Their whole shtick (recently) has been 'trust me", "No need to pay attention, everything is under control", "The other guys are dangerous". Anti-science, anti-education, pro-obedience, faith-based, loyalty is most important, everything is life-or-death, nuance is for wimps, greed is good, and on and on.

Many people welcome the invitation to not have to think too much about politics. Gossip, fake reality TV, wildest police chases, and the next cell phone are the drama that people want in their lives, not boring politicians droning on and on. "Hell, we've done our work- we elected 'em, now it's their turn to get to work! Why should we have to constantly pay attention to them?"

The electorate is going to have to be re-trained to appreciate diplomacy, complexity, compromise, and sophistication. Republicans have successfully made those negative qualities in the minds of many. It's a damn shame too.
