This Charge of "Racism" against The Clintons????
What did I miss? I tuned into my favorite talk show program at one AM this morning and heard Ray Taliafero--KGO 810 AM San Francisco/Bay Area--screaming at the Clintons for being racists and "crackers". He even used the "F" word on an AM station to denigrate Clinton. I've looked up to Ray since I was twelve years old, and I have never heard him so inflamed. I know that Ray was a staunch defender of the Bill Clinton when he was in the White House. It's only recently that he has begun to spew this venom... What is the deal?

What on earth did Bill or Hillary Clinton say about Obama that has been construed as racist??? I know that Bill Clinton has not really demonstrated his finest hour these past couple of weeks in his defense of Hillary, and it has been a turn off to me, even though I don't hate Hillary Clinton as some here do. Maybe I missed something huge, but has the Clinton camp been racist towards Obama? I have to know this, because I like all three of our Dem candidates, but it would honestly disgust me if this accusation is true.

Ray's show from last night is archived at the KGO website if you want to hear it for yourself. Ray is usually very level-headed, pro-Dem and progressive, and he used to like the Clintons, but he has really done a turnabout on the Clintons.

I wish there was some way to praise Obama without trashing the Clintons. And vice versa for that mattter.

1. I'm kind of wondering how you haven't heard of this ad nauseum...
I think other posters have a running tally of this and I'll wait for them to chime in.

2. I'm African American and
I don't think he is racist. I DO believe that he used race to get a political advantage. I think he was frustrated because Obama always gets the positive coverage. He wanted the media to rip him apart. When they did not (and they lost Iowa) he felt he had to do something before he became inevitable. He could not knock him for talking about HOPE and CHANGE so he had to somehow get people not to vote for him. He hoped he could peel the white voters away from supporting Barack. I always loved Bill until he started this. Now I feel like I can't vote for Hillary because I don't respect the way they used race in the campaign. I know some think you have to do whatever it takes to win but I still don't like it. I absolutely would not mind if you beat someone fair and square but I don't like how dirty politics could get. I remember reading how the people did McCain in 2000 (south Carolina) and I thought that was so awful. Then to see those type of political tactics in our own party by fellow democrats really turned me off....

3. The Clintons have been swiftboated by Obama as racists
while the Obama camp appealed to race to win in South Carolina. Swiftboating isn't effective unless the media helps and they sure love to help Obama. (for now).

5. the race issue is press driven
it`s black vs white-new vs old-man vs woman..the republicans do`t pull in any ratings while the Dem's ratings are a gold mine of advertising dollars..the last three debasements were sponsored by big coal which pretty much sums up what the msm is looking for...the most bang for the buck.

6. He said nothing racist. It's just a way for Obama to rally the troops. Bill was
talking about Obama's Iraq war funding votes and Barack saying he didn't support the war at the same time and called his confused positions on Iraq a "Faerie Tale", and that was spun into racism...."he called Obama's campaign a faerie tale because he's black and will never win!" Crock meet shit.

Then, Bill said that Obama's SC win was no big deal because Jesse Jackson won the state twice and never became president. That was spun into racism too...how? and for what reason? I have no fucking clue. Apparently you can't say ANYTHING about Barack without it being construed as racism. You can't compare this black candidate to other black candidates that have run because that's racist too. I guess. I wonder if Hillary was the 2nd woman running for the presidency if she would be compared to the first one who ran? I'm sure she would be....but that's different.

No one has been racist toward Barack. He just wanted people to think they were so he could get more voters to the polls. If there's some NEW fabricated racism, I've missed it. I'm sure there will be more accusations before this is over. It's worked really well for him and the MSM is more than obliging to spread the idiotic bullshit for days on end for him. They hate the Clintons...in case you forgot what the 90s were like. Tweety foams at the mouth nightly when he spews his crap about Hillary.

One of these days though, he's going to look like the boy who cried wolf. So far he's cried wolf twice. It's getting petty and transparent and It will backfire.

7. Two weeks ago they had a blatant strategy of injecting race into political dialogue
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 07:14 PM by goodhue
They dropped it about a week ago when it wasn't polling so well. Indeed the blowback resulted in big loss in SC.

10. Downplayed MLKs contribution to our nation, Then compared Barack to Rev Jackson
The Jackson comment was the worst. Bill skipped over John Edwards winning S.C.. He skipped over himself winning S.C.

He went all the way back to '84 and '88 to mention that Jesse Jackson won South Carolina.......

An African American candidate who did well in caucus states but lost when the ballots were secret.

Lets face it, in the '80s no African American had any chance of winning the Presidency. Ten years later (approx.) when Bill Clinton was dubbed "the first black president" that statement was qualified with a follow up statement "blacker than any man we can elect in our children's lifetime"(80 years?). This statement is also incorrect, not only is Bill NOT BLACK but we now have the opportunity to elect a black man within the lifetime of men who served our nation in a segregated military during World War Two.

The implication was that Sen. Obama is just another black candidate with no real chance of winning. There was no other reason to reach back into the '80s for a comparison than to mention a black man who lost.

The Dr. King reference was a bit softer. Hillary said that it took a president to make real the dream of Dr. King.

This belittles the contribution of civil rights activists, many of which risked and ultimately sacrificed their lives protesting injustice. LBJ signed a piece of paper in the oval office. These things are not close to being equal, to suggest that the President's contribution was somehow greater than Dr. King's is insulting.
