Cut out all the idiotic "Scum of the earth" talk. It was a fucking Campaign tactic. Seriously, get over yourselves. Yes, we disagree with it - so what. This is hardly on par with subtle race baiting, etc.

Seriously, as a rabid Obama supporter I'm getting rather sickened hanging out here. And I probably won't vote for Hillary if its between her and McCain (I would if its Romney though), but JEEZE. She didn't do evil today. Truly she didn't.

Bottom line, it was a campaign tactic - perhaps shrewd, perhaps idiotic - perhaps even taking advantage of a truly idiotic Democratic decision. But its hardly a big deal. You guys are looking even worse - far worse in fact - than the Hillary supporters did yesterday over the non-handshake fiasco. Stop it already.

At this point I'm probably leaning towards McCain if Obama or Edwards didn't win. But its not a sure thing.

Then again, I'm more of a left-leaning independent than a crazed party activist. I regularly vote for John Warner for the Senate for instance - ever since he dispatched Ollie North. Although I've never voted republican for President, or representative for that matter.

I'm FAR more concerned about deficit spending than most any other issue. I used to be more concerned about the War than anything (Hillary's vote is why I would consider not supporting her - I truly believe she knew she was doing the wrong thing), but I think we're pretty much sunk there...not much difference happening regardless who gets elected, regardless of the spin. Bottom line, the Army is almost broke, and it will have to get out whomever gets elected.

Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 10:35 PM by sfam
So be it...rocks it is. She knew better. It was a truly crass political calculation in my mind. It has cost the nation TONS, and some of us actual personal sacrifices that really didn't need to happen.

McCain at least believed in the insanity, and really did try hard to change Rumsfeld's policy when it would have still mattered.

35. Was that supposed to be a comeback?...
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 10:47 PM by sfam
If you're thinking I'm gonna love pulling the lever for McCain, you're pretty mistaken. I think it would be hard to gather that based on what I've said. To me Obama is EXACTLY what we need for our country - and its not based on his detailed 40 point policy positions on each issue. Its because he will work to bring the country together.

If this isn't in the cards, the choices are now picking between flawed choices. Left-leaning independents - meaning people who don't automatically choose one party for everything regardless of the quality of the candidates - will come down differently on this - which is hardly a surprise. Call it a mortal sin if you want, but considering it as such is a good bit of what I see as wrong with the current tenure of the discussion. My neighbors are not my enemies, even if they vote for different people than I do. Sorry you feel different about yours.

37. That reason just doesn't make sense.
Who among us can honestly say that they wouldn't have authorized the war if they were in Hillary's shoes? The intel all pointed to Saddam having WMD and getting ready to attack American interests. Plus, as you should be aware, the surge HAS worked. Even though, in hindsight, we probably shouldn't have gone in to Iraq, only a crazed cynic would say it didn't have some positive effects. It was a completely legitimate position for Hillary to take, as is her support for the surge.

38. Oh puleeze...MOST of us can say that we wouldn't have voted for it...especially if we had..
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 11:23 PM by sfam
actually read the intelligence caveots. But seriously, why would we have needed to? It was frickin CLEAR AS DAY that there was no basis to rush to war. For all those who thought this was a good idea at the time, all I can say is they were only reading the Washington Post, NY Times and watching the evening news.

There was TONS of open source information indicating that this was a truly bad idea. In fact, most of the rest of the world had figured it out. The fact that we assholed a bunch of governments into supporting us doesn't change this.

And again, EVERYONE knew this was a vote for war. Everyone but Hillary apparently.

Bottom line, she was working toward a run for the Presidency and ended up making a political choice instead of a choice of conscience. Hillary is about as smart a person as there is in the Senate - she knew what she was doing. If you think otherwise, I suppose you can have that opinion, but to me the facts were clear.

EDIT: and the surge has not changed the govt. dynamics. The surge was a good idea years ago...not so much today.

39. Come on . . .
You really think people reading the internet had better access to intel than senators?? Hillary had way more access than you or I could ever dream of. I believe that she must have seen a credible threat, and based on Saddam's past actions why was there any doubt he was a threat? She made a strong choice, and in the long run, the world just may be better because of it. That's the kind of leader I want in the White House. Not some namby-pamby who's going to "negotiate" with terrorists.
