Plain Dealer's glowing editorial of Obama's Kennedy endorsement
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 11:11 PM by OzarkDem
The Cleveland Plain Dealer and its opinion editor Barkin' Brent Larkin,

who has never met a Democratic candidate that it likes and didn't feel the need to smear,

who hates Ted Kennedy with a burning fiery passion

who refused to endorse John Kerry in 2004, even though the majority of its editorial board supported him,

who used bogus polling numbers to try to force Al Gore to abandon Ohio in 2000,

who has refused to cover the plethora of GOP crimes in Ohio and elsewhere, including refusing to report on Coingate for months after other papers began reporting it in an attempt to help Ken Blackwell get elected governor

who ALWAYS holds secret meetings with Karl Rove several times a year

who dutifully reports exactly what Sen. Voinovich and the Bush WH tell them to report

wrote this glowing editorial praising the Kennedy family legacy and its endorsement of Obama today

This is incredibly out of character for them, way beyond the pale.

And it tells me loud and clear that the GOP wants Obama to win the primary. I'm not sure why they do, probably because they think he will be easiest to defeat in the GE. But this is decisive. This is the smoking gun.

3. There wasn't enough room to post it
I would have been typing all night.

Though a bit unsettling, I'm relieved there is finally some decisive evidence. At least we can accept it and move on from here. I'll still support Edwards. If he loses the primary, I'll support Clinton.

But if Obama wins the primary we are totally screwn.

If Obama, by some chance wins the GE, we are really, really screwn.

7. What sense does that make?
They (the GOP) can't want him to win the primary because he'll be easy to beat AND because they actually do want him to be President. Which is it?

14. Who knows, its one or the other
but I'm 100% certain now that Obama is the candidate they want to win the primary, for whatever reason. They probably also see it as a handy way to divide and conquer Ohio Dem voters.

What happens beyond that I don't know. I suppose we'll find out. But this part of the mystery is solved.

5. It was publisher Alex Machaskee, not Larkin, who kiboshed the Kerry endorsement.
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 10:32 PM by asthmaticeog
Where do you get this info about Larkin's supposed secret meetings with Karl Rove?

Furthermore, Larkin isn't Editor-In-Chief and never has been. Susan Goldberg holds that job; she recently replaced Doug Clifton.

The notion that Senator Voinovich dictates coverage is laughable, they've torpedoed the guy many times during his last two terms. It is true that they under-covered Eric Fingerhut's opposition campaign, but that's not proof of a collusion.

Look, I have more reason than most people to hate the PD, but if you want to talk about "smoking guns," starting with a grasp of simple facts would help.

6. I know Larkin, he was also behind it
Guaranteed. He's cut from the same cloth as Machaskee, is close friends with George Voinovich. The same right wing, conservative Catholic who hates Democrats with every fiber of his being.

Keep in mind, all the Plain Dealer's efforts to stifle investigations of Ken Blackwell, Diebold and vote rigging in Ohio. Machaskee was gone by then, that was Larkin and his minions pushing that agenda.

This glowing editorial about the Kennedy family (Plain Dealer hated JFK, too) is the smoking gun. Obama is their guy.

11. Who's my candidate?
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 10:48 PM by asthmaticeog
No, seriously, who's my candidate?

Edit: You're not going to fucking respond, so I'll just tell you, I was Kucinich, and I'm probably Edwards now, assuming he's still in it come the Ohio primary. But thanks for calling me GOP. STILL not getting your facts straight, I see.

16. I have no love for Larkin.

I know all too well what a doucherocket he is. I also know that your OP is full of preposterous misstatements. Larkin being a shitbag doesn't make your assertions correct. And all this flying off the handle isn't helping your case any.

17. You must be mistaken
You assume I give a rats ass about what you think. The fact that you work in media in NE Ohio lowers my opinion of you even more.

Don't bother apologizing for the Plain Dealer's editorial board and their leader Larkin. They're right wing shitbags and their paper is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the GOP. Anyone else who works in media in NE Ohio who tries to defend them instead of calling them on their attempts to cover for crooks and run this state into the ground doesn't deserve to call themselves a journalist either.

PS I grew up in St Louis, MO, and grew accustomed to a real newspaper, the St Louis Post Dispatch.

18. So who's apologizing for them?
I *know* they're RW shitbags who use their paper as a GOP mouthpeice in a Democratic region. They categorically suck. But I'm not defending their rightwingness or their coverups. I'm telling you where you're wrong. It is possible, after all, for them to be completely fucking awful AND for you to have your facts wrong about them.

BTW, for someone who doesn't care what I think, you sure do throw a lot of insults at me. Also, I'm not a journalist and I never said I was.

I LOVE ST. Louis. And I don't give two shits that you're from there. In addition to the excellent Post Dispatch, not incidentally, it's also the home of the awful Riverfront Times, a corporate/libertarian piece of shit.
