THE FAT LADY HAS SUNG: It's John McCain vs Hillary Clinton in November
Tonight, John McCain cemented his front-runner status. For Hillary, she was always the front-runner, but Iowa changed the media story, but for a very short time. Both candidates poll very well going into Super Tuesday; it's a safe bet, Hillary vs McCain.

And this is great news, perhaps the best news for Democrats in this decade. The reason: conservatives detest McCain. Rush, Hannity, all the big voices think he's too "liberal" and many voters will stay home. Those independents who will vote for McCain won't compensate for the massive turnout of the Democratic Base.

We will win Florida. We will win in November. I enjoyed voting for Hillary today, but would have been very happy with an Obama or Edwards candidacy. But I voted Hillary because I know she is the best candidate. Some criticize her for a "do whatever it takes" attitude, I think is the best quality of a presidential candidate, a fighter. It's no surprise Kerry endorsed Obama; they are idealists, good people, who would made good presidents, but ultimately unable to judge the American zeitgeist, unable to win, unable to sway American voters.

Hillary/Clark 08!!

17. I think that is just pug talk and pugs love that line.
I knew one who used it. Slapped her down all the time. And I voted for Edwards. hmmmmmf. But I'll vote for Hillary in spite of a fucking pug.

make a compelling and fair case for Senator Clinton.

16. I think any of our Dem candidates will have a hard time
defeating McCain.

To judge from the posts on DU, some DUers will vote for McCain rather than one of our candidates.

Personally, I think ALL of our candidates are better than McCain.

12. The fat lady has sung??
"Both Sen. McCain and Gov. Romney are too flawed to reunite and reinvigorate a dispirited Republican party. There is only one candidate who can do that. And she might lose to Barack Obama."

You may be correct, in more ways than one.

13. YES!!!!!!
I agree 100%, except for that part about Obama being "good people."

But you nailed it nonetheless. Just wait for the Obama whiners to start crying "no delegates were at stake." To those people I say: Think about it for a second. Do you really want someone in the White House who was to dumb to campaign in Florida?

Exactly!!

22. Untrue. McCain is way weaker among Repugs than Hillary is with Dems
The independents are a minority, and will only matter if McCain carries virtually all of them. This won't happen, not after Iraq.

24. Good point. I hope you're right.
I'd rather have HRC then McCain in the WH. If she's the nom, I really hope she can pull it off. She's just much more polarizing than McCain. I think a bad economy plays to her advantage, so that might help.

21. McCain has beat Hillary in the polls I have seen.
Edwards is the only one of our candidates who has beat McCain in the polls I have seen? Has anyone else seen polls in which Hillary beats McCain? Or in which Obama beats McCain?

25. It's that kind of arrogance that will cost us the election
It's that kind of blind overconfidence that this election is a solid lock for any democrat to win that will cost us the election. You do not win a presidential election by going "hey were not the other party", just look at 1952 when the republicans tried to go "hey we're not Truman", they lost not only the presidency but congress as well.

You cannot count on turnout being low on the GOP's side simply because they got a moderate they've hated for a while on their ticket, they'll hate any democrat even more. Worse yet, we to will have a moderate that the base will hate on the ticket, but our side won't be so motivated by hate of McCain. I've been certain for over a year that we're screwed in this general election, and tonight proved it.
