A challenge to Obama fans...
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 11:51 PM by RiverStone
Ok, we agree that Hillary's vote count in FLA was NOT a victory of any kind.

No legitimate battle was even fought there. End of story.

But, in 1 week - Obama holds the potential to prove, unequivocally, that he can win the nomination!

Obama is looking great in Illinois and has a healthy polling lead in Georgia. His forte has been making up tons of ground. And polls have consistently revealed that those voters who have recently made up their minds (in the last couple of weeks) are breaking Obama's way. Trends in CA and NY are looking good, but he is still behind there. He needs all the good strategy he can get.

Rather than taking the flame bait from today's FLA fiasco...

Lets focus on the good news, the good endorsements, the good numbers, the damn good possibility that Obama WILL MAKE HISTORY on February 5th.

And with all due respect to John Edwards supporters, I dearly hope that even if he takes his good message all the way to the convention - that we can find common ground and work together in a unified Hillary alternative coalition. I greatly respect John's message as well; it's simply that now is the time for pragmatism - and I know Obama can beat Hillary!

I challenge Obama fans to focus on winning next Tuesday. That happens, this goofy footnote in FLA will be ancient history.

Ignore the bait, focus on winning.

And win he will!

:hi: :kick:

1. I love the sentiment, but it won't work.
I'll be there with you, but there are just too many people here (both BO and HRC) that just enjoy antagonizing and feces-slinging.

15. Glad ya agree...
With the sentiment Nailzberg and I appreciate your apprehension given the mud stained walls around here.

But, and this is no exaggeration - next week could be a historic night like no other in the history of our nation.

Obama would be a symbol to the world that America can do it right this time.

Keep the faith and please share any good and verifiable Obama news - phone bank, volunteer, and believe he can do it!

I know, I'm sounding like a cheerleader - feels better then counter punching!

16. I got a call from a volunteer this evening inviting me to come in and work.
I just don't know if I'm cut out for phone banking, though. I'll go talk to them and find out what else I can do.
But yeah, there's one week to turn out some votes in California, and arguing with some of the nuts here isn't helping.

2. Yep. I'm hoping to change my focus to volunteering, starting tomorrow....
I'm surrounded by Super Tuesday states.

My boss is out of town.

I cleared my schedule.

There's no excuse for me to sit on my ass, getting riled up by supporters of *other* candidates.

Time to get "FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!"

3. I'm tired of nuance volleyball.
I don't believe there is a true favorite right now between the two. I think California will probably decide the "winner" of Super Tuesday and right now, it's a draw. I say we focus on building Obama up, instead of tearing Clinton down.

But I don't see that happening.

8. I'm going to point this out ONCE more, 'cuz it bears repeating.
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 11:54 PM by Bicoastal
Obama couldn't and didn't campaign in Michigan or Florida. But when Obama campaigns, he CAMPAIGNS.

Depsite being a much bigger household name, Clinton has won two narrow victories out of 4 delegate states. On the other hand, Obama's 2 victories were both won by huge margins.

So the scorecard is thus:

Hillary--2 small wins, 2 big losses.
Obama--2 big wins, 2 small losses.

We're in damn good shape heading into Tuesday.

10. Hillary has not won the delegates
in any state. Obama won the delegates in 3 states and tied in the 4th. The Clinton campaign keeps reminding the media that we're electing delegates, after all.

12. Keep pumping the positive!
Not only will people listen Bicoastal, but your making a hell of a lot of sense!

This achieves so much more then getting into flame wars with... (you know).

Good luck and lets hope we will be up way past midnight a week from now posting TRUE victory threads for Obama!

17. I'm feeling hopeful about Obama going into next Tuesday
Along with those good points, it appears Obama did well among the voters in Florida tonight who made up their minds in the last month. Another good sign for growing support.

I think I heard he's winning Idaho too. I'm praying for Cali, Jersey and MA and I think he will make it close in NY

19. 1 month ago....
Connecticut was

Clinton 49
Obama 21
Edwards 17

New poll out today over on realclearpolitics.com shows:

Clinton 40
Obama 40
Edwards 11

Obama has closed a 28-point gap in one month. A similar sea change is occuring in California and other Super Tuesday states as we speak.

Exit-polling in Florida showed that Obama won solidly among those Floridians who voted AFTER South Carolina.... Clinton won among those that voted before South Carolina.

Everything is trending Obama's way..... and look for a big endorsement or two EVERY SINGLE DAY for Obama over the next 7 days... including Bill Richardson later this week, and possibly the big enchilada next Monday: Al Gore.

This thing is moving fast, and it is moving in Obama's direction. Hillary is scared, hence the Florida gambit in which she backed out of her "pledge" in an effort to try and slow Obama's momentum by putting on a show in Florida and talking about bringing their delegates in.

It's happening folks.... but don't underestimate the Clintons... they will spend this entire week dumping all of their oppo research into the media to see what sticks. It's going to be a rough week... stay on message and be ready next week.

22. Great news on CT!
I wonder if Obama could actually pull close enough in NY to win? He pulls that off in Hil's home state - that may guarantee the nom - but I'm not holding my breath there - 21 other states are happening next Tues. I read somewhere on DU (sorry, can't recall the poster) that one poll had him only 4% down in NY. I'm sure in the next few days there will be zillions of polls - and we all know they can be close or way off.

But if we look to trends, Obama's got the wave face for now.

18. okay, I'm in.
First I don't agree that Florida wasn't a victory for Clinton. Even with the votes not counting towards delegates, more people voted for her than for Edwards or Obama. She deserves some kudos for that. She'll get some positive press but going forward the results of tonight don't mean much.

I've been purposely on the sidelines throughout the campaign trying to stay neutral. My primary here in NC isn't until May, so why get involved?
So I've tried to stay undecided. Tried not to get caught up in the mudslinging or cheer leading on any side but what can I say, it's difficult NOT to get fired up.

I still admire Edwards for the spotlight he's put on the issue of poverty.
I'm still impressed with Clinton's commitment to children's health and her intellect.

I'd sleep well if either were to be the next President. But if they get the nomination, I can't help but see that I'd be working more to keep the Republicans out of the White House rather than getting them in to it.

I'm ready to vote for someone not against.

Detractors and partisans in other camps may dismiss it as falling for hype or being naive, but listening to Obama speak does inspire me.
There are some differences in policy and I could point to evidence of better judgment to base my support on. His position closly match mine, but in all honesty so do Clinton's and Edwards.
I could also justify supporting Obama over other democratic candidates based on who I think would have longer coattails in down ticket elections. But given the sorry nature of polling, that's not much more than gut feeling.

In the end, Obama and his campaign just inspire me more. The petty crap that's been flying around these parts lately aren't going to drag me down.

20. a long and winding road...
to Obama included a few changes along the way for me as well.

I appreciate abburdlen, that you see (and express) the positive in all 3 candidates. I'm voting Dem regardless of who gets the nomination, but I'd be far more enthusiastic if it were Obama or Edwards.

Originally, I was originally hoping Gore would jump in - he would have trumped any leaning I had to other candidates. My sentimental favorite then became Kucinich, but alas the corporate media never gave him a chance. I'm not such a purest that it HAD TO be him or nobody --- then I found both Edwards and Obama to each hold unique appeal - and I'd be thrilled with either.

But for reasons I don't fully get - Edwards just never caught on in the big way Obama did. I think it is mostly that Obama's message hits home with young voters. It does so more than any politician in recent memory.

Good that Obama inspires you - thats a great reason to jump in.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy getting your feet wet! And duck every now and then...

peace~:)
