I was wrong - I thought Huckabee would do better
but he's sucking eggs.

So it looks like a two man race between McCain and Romney. Who do you think will win?

I think it'll be McCain and I'm happy for that - I think he'll be much easier to beat than Romney. Well... I feel confident we can beat McCain. Romney's an unknown.

1. If you put any stock in them,
according to CNN Florida exit polls, Romney voters go to church more than once a week and want him to deport illegal immigrants. Romney is pretty scary stuff.

2. I can't believe it Monkey admitting an error

Its very difficult to guess but while the smart money is on McCain I think the establishment and the Limbaughs will start tearing McCain a new one. And Romney will buy alot of air time. It may come back to how well Huckabee does to take votes away from Romney.

They both have tremendous flaws so I am happy either way.

They are going to have to add someone to VP that will appease the fundamentalist evangelicals and so Huckabee is the likely guy.

4. Huckabee annoys me....ugh
But then again, so does McCain...and his looks of constant constipation..and then again, Romney looks oily and annoying too..and Ron Paul, the easiest to take looks like a wittled prune..

Well, at least Ghouliani is out...

Mr. Funk

a) Having lived overseas for 20 years working in refugee camps for the UN I was unaware of alot of things like DU.

b) My post wasn't hostile just a little mischievous but typically you responded in hostility. You do that alot. There are few names here I even take notice of but yours seem to be filled with a vitriolic menace. Its too bad really.

3. The interesting thing is that Huckabee will probably win like 5 states on Tuesday
He does very well in these Southern States and is leading in many of them.

6. Yeah
but it turns out his appeal doesn't extend beyond that. I thought it would.

It's McCain or Romney.

8. I dont even think its a choice of those two anymore. I dont see how McCain loses
I think hes going to crush Romney in NJ, NY, CA, and some other states. And the difference is that some of those states are winner take all.

About Huckabee, I'm a little surprised too. I think his downfall was his ignorance on foreign policy issues, and I think his over usage or religion alienatied some of the more moderate Republicans.

14. I agree... it's almost certainly McCain
but Romney's got a LOT of money, so I hope their race is tight for a long time. Make the bastard spend $60 million before losing.

23. Huckabee is a smoothie
Tons of charm that masks a Fundie soul; he scared me more than anyone in the field. I figured if they rallied around him it was going to be problem for the Dems. But he couldn't hide how crazy he was.

9. I think they are worried about Romney being weaker in the general. NBC
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 03:38 AM by wlucinda
and time.com are saying Rudy was going to endorse Mc Cain today. We'll see if it happens.

What I'm sure of, is that all the Reps I know don't like MC Cain. A lot.

12. I know quite a few conservatives..
and not one of them like McCain...they think he's too much of a loaded gun..a few support Huckabee...

But the majority of them feel they have no one to vote for this go round..Romney just doesn't do it for them.

15. Yep
which is why I'm rooting for McCain over Romney.

McCain doesn't have a fervent base who'll work for him. He's respected and liked by a lot of Americans, but he's not going to get elected on that.

Plus he's old, half nuts and has a bad temper, so he'll explode during the campaign.

17. McCain
which is astounding when you think where he was 4 months ago. This is a truly horrible set of candidates; when Ron Paul becomes a cult hero it's stinker of a field.

Whoever wins the Democratic nomination is going to win the GE, most likely handily. Ironically enough, George Romney could run against the GOP field and win.

18. politically
he's been very impressive. I thought he was dead as recently as a month ago.

When he first declared, I thought he'd win handily. Then he sucked tailpipes for a LONG time, and then he started winning.

I knew the Powers that Be in the GOP don't like him and didn't want him, so I figured he was dead. But good for him. Let him be the nominee and lose. And he'll lose graciously. Maybe he'll get a boner pill commercial.

22. Yeah, he probably would
I think he's sick; he looks and sounds terrible. I'm sure part of this is getting back at the GOP Establishment who loathe him; this is a backhanded fuck you to them. In return, he's their sacrificial lamb to a doomed election.

politically, that makes me want him to be the nominee.

Personally, I wish he would retire.

20. I'm thinking McCain, too.
But he won't be easy late-night talk show fodder like Dole, because of post-9/11 rah rah gung-ho militarism. Overconfidence of a Democratic sure-thing win we see online worries me. And if we do win, what if there is a shift over to full repub control of Congress? Is it better to hold the executive? Only tyrants like what we have now with a compliant Congress can make the presidency worthwhile, given the mess that'll be needing attending to.

26. McCain and Huckabee
are working together to block Mitt, Huckabee will be staying in.

There is real hatred between the two of them and Mitt, and Mitt is determined and rich he will continue to run, he does have a very hard line agenda.

The conservatives want nothing to do with McCain but the evangelical base will not vote for a mormon.

McCains MOTHER said the republicans will have to hold their nose to vote for McCain.

McCain and Huckabee like each other, Huckabee will be his VP candidate, he needs the southern evangelical to complete his package.

McCain would only serve one term, and Huckabee would run for POTUS...and they are banking on running against Hillary.

She will be THE motivator of conservative and moderates in the party.

It will be Hillary, if she is the nominee for dems that unites the republican party.

29. I think it will come down to McCain.
Huckabee scares away social libertarians, repub gun owners, and probably even plenty of evangelicals with his talk of turning the U.S. into a theocratic state.
