Congratulations to John Edwards on the cleanest campaign run this year.
And thank you for keeping the focus on the real issues, and not the bullshit. Obama is my choice, but Edwards ran the most respectable campaign. It's perhaps a sad commentary on America that Richardson, Biden, and Edwards--the three cleanest campaigners--were all forced to drop for lack of attention/support.

2. I agree.
The Edwards campaign and his supporters have exhibited the best values of democracy throughout.

I salute you. :patriot:

3. Agreed
Sad the cleanest campaigners were all forced to drop.

America more interested in Idol than ideology and action. I weep for the shallowness of my country and the future I see as a result of it.

5. hear hear. I think Obama has run an above the belt campaign
too as far as I can tell but John never never did anything to raise my "dirty politician" alarm.

7. I apprecitate the kind gesture there
but honestly if Edwards was in danger of beating Hillary or Obama the mud would have been flung at him and very well would have been thrown back. Edwards wasn't attacked because he didn't need to be attacked.

If Obama was a distant 3rd instead of a close 2nd, he would be the one running the clean campaign while Edwards and Hillary got deep into the muck. So while it's nice to think Edwards is a great, stand-up guy I think the context of the campaign as a whole should be considered.

8. Edwards was attacked, just not so much at DU
He is still being attacked this morning. Check out non-political sites like www.wral.com to see a taste of it -- remember that WRAL is a moderated site. The whisper campaign, the media attacks, they were all in play.

John Edwards was attacked when he ran for Senate and almost continually for the last ten years. I never saw him return in kind, although he would respond when he thought a response was needed.

9. Edwards beat Hillary in Iowa by hammering her
but he did it with intellectual and mature word choices - he didn't seem to go into the mud the same manner the other politicians did. I'll concur with the OP, but it doesn't make sense to congratulate the man for being the most above the childish fray and not support him. Best wishes to your candidate, although Hillary has this wrapped up, regardless of what John says or does. She's polling 20-30 points above O in lots of states, and Edwards' leaving will only drastically increase her landslide win in places like OK, TN, etc...

10. That line of reasoning -
is another reason why I will not vote for Obama. Thank you for your kind concern. :sarcasm:

11. I wasn't trying to diss Edwards
but I understand if it came off that way. I'm also not sure what my humble opinion has to do with who you vote for in the primaries.

Apologies.

14. Possibly true, but he ran a pretty good campaign in '04, too - and he was a close 2nd then.

16. What a classy post! Thank you so much.
It's hard to stomach some of the schadenfreude here today. :(

Thanks for acknowledging that Edwards really did have an impact on this election cycle by keeping it clean, and by focusing upon poverty. You rock.

:hi:
