Thirty-four percent (34%) of Americans say they are passionately and deeply committed to one of the Presidential candidates this year. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 47% of Democrats are that passionate, but only 28% have the same level of deep commitment to a candidate.
Among Democrats who are passionate about a candidate, 53% say they are deeply committed to Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. Twenty-eight percent (28%) are committed to Barack Obama.
As for Republicans who are deeply committed to a candidate, 34% are passionate about Mitt Romney and 23% about Mike Huckabee. Ten percent (10%) say the same about both John McCain and Ron Paul.
Americans under 30 and those who earn less than $40,000 a year are more likely to be passionate about a candidate than older and higher-income Americans.
The survey, conducted in partnership with Fox Television Stations, Inc., also touched on a number of other Election 2008 topics.
Twenty-seven percent (27%) of Americans believe John McCain is too old to be President. Most, 56%, disagree and say he is not too old for the job.
Overall, Americans are evenly divided as to whether Bill Clinton is helping or hurting his wife’s campaign. Thirty-five percent (35%) say he helps, 37% say he hurts, and 28% say he has no impact or are not sure. Among Democrats, 50% say he helps the former First Lady while 22% say he hurts.
