Has Nader been charged with violating any labor laws over the incident? Because if not, I'm simply calling bullshit.

So if someone claims that they are voting FOR Nader, they either approve of everything about him, or are still just taking the lesser of some number of evils according to their view.

40. Here's what he said....
"When Kucinich threw in the towel, now you have Edwards gone — who's going to carry the torch of democratic populism against the relentless domination of powerful corporations of our government?" Nader said. "You can't just brush these issues to the side because the candidates are ignoring them."

He has harsh words for the leading Democratic candidates, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, chastising them for failing to advance aggressive plans to tax corporations more fairly, and to fight for a vastly higher minimum wage.

Obama, he said, is a particular disappointment, since his background suggests that he knows the importance of progressive issues yet hasn't fought for them in the Senate.

"His record in the Senate is pretty mediocre," Nader said. "His most distinctive characteristic is the extent to which he censors himself. He hasn't performed as a really progressive first-term senator would."

I'm sure glad he kept that centrist, Al Gore, out of the WH. That's all we needed, a DINO and Clinton-era hack like Al Gore.

What? That's how he was being characterized over at SmirkingChimp.com. It's also how Deaniacs were characterizing Kerry in '04 on this website.

34. It did happen -- all except the part where Nader tanked the election
A few facts you may not be aware of:

1. Gore and the DNC ran away from the record of the most popular Democratic president in a generation
2. Gore and the DNC picked a right-wing religious fanatic as the veep candidate.
3. Gore and the DNC ignored the MASSIVE, ILLEGAL scrubbing of African Americans from the Florida voter rolls

And even with all that (and more)

4. Gore won.

It's so much easier to hate than to actually remember recent history, isn't it?

94. No one is saying he can't.
Just that he shouldn't. The stakes are way too high. Too many people have been assuming that a Democrat is going to win in November. It is far from a foregone conclusion. And, if a Democrat loses, a Republican WINS! And I truly feel that our country cannot endure 4-8 more years of Republican rule. Even a corporate Democrat is better than a corporate Republican. With Nader running, votes are siphoned away from the more left candidate (the Democrat) thus making it more difficult to get enough votes to be a conclusive win. And, if McCain gets the Republican nomination, it's going to be close.

Why can't we lefties think strategically? This is why we're likely to lose in the long run. And I mean beyond November.

*The Democratic nominee WILL BE a ProBusiness, ProWAR, AntiLABOR, Anti-HealthCare (For Profit "Insurance" ONLY), Conservative.

YES. I see a HUGE opportunity for a ProLABOR, AntiWAR, ProHealthCare, 3rd Party Progressive.

This is NOT Nader's fault.
This is the Democratic Party's fault,
but its much easier to just blame Nader than to fix what is wrong with our Party.
Nader IS the symptom...NOT the problem.

Nader is NOT Superman, though many here paint him as a Superman.
You, and the Democratic Party, are giving away too much power.
Nader is really a wimpy, little NERD.
One wimpy, little NERD could NOT knock the wheels off of the entire Democratic Party if that Party was not broken and weak.

It is really PATHETIC that anyone would blame this wimpy little NERD for the failures of an entire Political Party!

If not Nader, then someone else who represents Americans who Work for a Living.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

106. An opportunity to speak for Americans who Work for a Living.
Here is what the MAJORITY of Americans (Democrats AND Republicans) want from OUR government!

In recent polls by the Pew Research Group, the Opinion Research Corporation, the Wall Street Journal, and CBS News, the American majority has made clear how it feels. Look at how the majority feels about some of the issues that you'd think would be gospel to a real Democratic Party:

1. 65 percent (of ALL Americans, Democrats AND Republicans) say the government should guarantee health insurance for everyone -- even if it means raising taxes.

2. 86 percent favor raising the minimum wage (including 79 percent of selfdescribed "social conservatives").

3. 60 percent favor repealing either all of Bush's tax cuts or at least those cuts that went to the rich.

4. 66 percent would reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

5. 77 percent believe the country should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment.

6. 87 percent think big oil corporations are gouging consumers, and 80 percent (including 76 percent of Republicans) would support a windfall profits tax on the oil giants if the revenues went for more research on alternative fuels.

7. 69 percent agree that corporate offshoring of jobs is bad for the U.S. economy (78 percent of "disaffected" voters think this), and only 22% believe offshoring is good because "it keeps costs down."

8. Over 63% oppose the War on the Iraqi People.

9. 92% of ALL Americans support TRANSPARENT, VERIFIABLE elections!

The problem is NOT Nader.
The problem is that the Democratic Party has moved so far to the RIGHT that it no longer represents the interests of a vast number of Americans.
Sooner or Later, people will stop voting for the Party that keeps fucking them.
Human nature.
If not Nader, then someone else.

Even Al Gore acknowleged this fact in an interview with Jon Stewart.

Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 02:47 PM by LoZoccolo
You still haven't spoken word one of how the fuck voting for Nader's supposed to get any of that either. Do you think that the Republicans are going to give you anything on that list?

57. It isn't like this wasn't 100% foreseeable. Nader as much as said that if we nominate a centrist,
he'll run as an independent.

Where is the mystery in all of this?

Certainly our candidates can win despite this, and if not, we certainly cannot say we were blindsided.

The prime motivation of splinterists is to feel self-righteous. There will never be a suitable candidate because voting with any significant number of people erases the self-righteous feeling. The Greens ran a candidate against Ned Lamont.

74. Does Nader matter enough to fuck?
I can't think of one person I know who, upon hearing that Nader might run, would say, "Wow! I was thinking of voting for either Obama or Clinton if they got the nomination, but now that Nader's running again, I've got to switch my vote to him!"

Can you?

101. If he hadn't been financed by Republicans, I'd feel differently
For many decades, Ralph was a respected voice. Even in 2000, when I disagreed strongly with his third party action, I could have maintained a level of respect for him. But he was a willing tool of the right, and that I cannot forget or forgive.

As for his supporters, they're adults, and are entitled to support whoever they see fit, but not here, because this is a site to support the Democratic nominee.
