I, personally, think the Mormon church is frightening. It's an enormous apparatus with blind followers and zero transparency: much like the Catholics, the only check on abuse is the goodwill of church elders; as in any organization, those at the top deal in favors and not in morals. And they're even more opaque than the Catholics. I have known two Mormon women. Both were repeatedly sexually abused as children by LDS elders. One eventually committed suicide.

The Mormon church has a short and often disturbing history, seasoned with insurrection, fanaticism, secessionism, polygamy, institutional racism, and abuse. It has only ever changed its ways when it risked governmental intervention.

That being said, I don't think Mitt Romney's religion means shit. I'm confident that 99.95% of Mormons are good people; I believe that the problems within the Mormon church are the natural problems with opaque hierarchical religious institutions (especially those forming splinter communities).

So what's your beef with Romney's religion?
