A question about campaign donations
and those who drop out early.

What happens to Edwards' donation dollars now that he is no longer running?
I doubt very much you can get a refund ;).

If he now endorses another candidate, does his money go into those coffers instead?
What are the rules on this?

1. Those who donated to his general election campaign will be refunded that money.

3. You sure?
I remember the talking heads on TV stating that Hillary began her nomination campaign last year far ahead of anyone else due to her carry over of campaign funds from her two Senate runs.

4. If one does not win the nomination, they cannot use GE funds and therefore must return them.

Candidates cannot touch their general election money and must return it to donors if they do not win the nomination. "

Senators & Congressman may transfer any leftover funds in their previous campaigns to their Presidential primary campaign.

Hillary got carryover from her 2nd Senate run when she transfered $10M.

6. that's quite a job to do...
does this apply to All donations or to those above a certain amount?
the admin work in refunding $20 amounts in the hundreds or thousands sounds daunting...

2. I imagine any money towards the primary would go to pay off campaign debt
Campaigns are expensive things to run.

8. I don't want my money back, but if any of it DOES come back --
I'm giving it to my local Food Bank.

9. so far...
money collected for GE can be kept for future campaigns.

moneys for primaries are usually sucked up by expenses, and if there are any overs the donaters get a refund?

close?
