George Galloway British Maverick MP on Obama
How Obama Has Given America A Reason To Believe
Jan 28 2008 George Galloway, Daily Record

CAROLINE KENNEDY, the last surviving child of JFK, endorsed Barack Obama last week as he swept to a crushing victory in the South Carolina primary.
Like her father, Obama is giving Americans something to believe in again, after a period of arid, cynical, mendacious and murderous misrule.

I caught Obama's victory speech live at four in the morning yesterday, and even I - who heard it all, and at that time of the night, too - was really moved.
This movie star-looking man, with his lovely family and his Bobby Kennedy-type speeches: it all looks and feels like a Hollywood story starring Sidney Poitier.

The Clintons - scheming, manoeuvring, oh-so-economical with the truth - are like Mrs & Mr Cruella de Vil, trying to steal his victory, employing every dirty trick, except that one with the teenage girl in the Oval Office with the Havana cigar..... snip

1. As other furriners have pointed out, outsiders see us better
and more clearly than we see ourselves. Been like that for 200 years.

7. thanks it seems to work on my browser
I'm not gonna comment on this since I just lost Dennis and then Edwards.

I shall never forget Galloway taking down Senator Coleman in the Senate.

5. Well, that's a bit much
I saw Galloway make an ass out himself "debating" Christopher Hitchens. I don't really like the characterization of Mrs. Clinton being about scheming, manoeuvring, and lying. I mean, she could be our nominee.

Is it too late for Biden or Dodd to reenter the race?

12. Better get used to it
"I don't really like the characterization of Mrs. Clinton being about scheming, manoeuvring, and lying."

That's how a good portion of the country perceives her...

18. Perceptions
It doesn't matter if she doesn't actually do those things. People have been told to think she does for 16 years. That's a hell of thing to run against. People have been told to think McCain is a maverick for a long time and Romney is a successful businessman who creates jobs. It boggles the mind when you think about what actually happened.

29. Nooo, you can have him, we're not selfish!
We do agree with his position on the war, but other than that he is a bit of a buffoon who is more interested in things like being on Celebrity Big Brother than doing his job in Parliament.

Despite being a Brit with a strong interest in American politics, I am not sure that it is really appropriate for British politicians to make specific endorsements of another country's candidates in any case. I wouldn't really be that keen on it if it happened the other way around.

21. Yes, their positions against the Iraq war are very similar.
I would say Obama is more tempered and measured in his criticism. :) But at least his criticism is there, and always was.

10. some george galloway quotes
To a Sky News journalist during the Lebanon crisis:

"One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. You are totally wrong in saying that in most people’s eyes Hezbollah are terrorists. In most people’s eyes Israel is a terrorist state. It’s the fact that you cannot comprehend that fact that leads to bias that runs through all of your reporting and every question that you’ve asked me in this interview!"

"What a silly question! What a silly person you are! Hezbollah is winning the war; you can see on the other half of the screen. Hezbollah is more popular today in Lebanon amongst Christians, amongst Sunnis, amongst Shiite, amongst all Arabs, amongst all Muslims that it has ever been. It’s Israel who’s lost the war, and Bush and Blair for politically organizing the war, who’ve lost politically. This is a defeat of Bush and Blair and Israel. Everybody but you can see it!"

To Saddam Hussein in 1994:

"Sir, I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability, and I want you to know that we are with you, hatta al-nasr, hatta al-nasr, hatta al-Quds (until victory, until victory, until Jerusalem)."

This is one endorsement Obama can do without.

One of MY FAVORITE Galloway quotes:

Testimony before the US Senate on May 17, 2005.

"I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is that Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns. I met him to try and bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war, and on the second of the two occasions, I met him to try and persuade him to let Dr Hans Blix and the United Nations weapons inspectors back into the country - a rather better use of two meetings with Saddam Hussein than your own Secretary of State for Defense made of his."

"Galloway v the US Senate: transcript of statement", The Times, May 18, 2005

And don't look now, but most of the civilized world DOES CONSIDER ISRAEL A TERRORIST STATE, and unfortunately, also now considers the United States of America a terrorist state. Most of the free, civilized world now considers the United States THE rogue nation and THE biggest threat to world peace and stability.

I'm not a big Galloway fan, although I do admire his chutzpah. And if you're going to cherry-pick Galloway quotes, please expect others to do the same. And quite frankly, Senator Obama has been endorsed by far worse in my book than Galloway. I'll take a nutter Brit any day over American home-grown homophobic theo-fascists.

He's a drunken British embarrassment who needs to get his information from much better sources than his local pub.
