A young person's perspective--starting from the time I was 6 years old...
...our presidents have either been named Bush or Clinton. I'm 25 now.

If Clinton wins, and wins two terms? From the ages of 6-34. Two families running the White House. How many people passed through the White House since YOU were 6? How many times did the White House change hands while you were going through your formative years?

If Clinton gets the nomination, I will vote for her. But in the meantime--it just feels like our country is in a rut, politically speaking. I prefer someone who will break the cycle.

1. Using similar logic, for my entire life a male has been President
in fact, for the 200+ year history of our country, a male has been President. Break the rut, vote female.

BTW, I'm stll an Edwards supporter.

3. Using similar logic, for my entire life a Caucasian has been President.
in fact, for the 200+ year history of our country, a Cacuasian has been President. Break the rut, vote Obama.

See, that was easy! :hi:

7. Even in our long history of white christian males leading the country...
...a 28-year Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton pattern would be uniquely strange.

12. You'd equate 12 years of FDR with 28 years of Bushes and Clintons? nt

5. Except that's not similar logic.
Half the country is male. What percentage of the country is a Bush or a Clinton?

That said, I do agree that, clearly, the presidency has been a ridiculously patriarchal position.

8. it is similar logic
and as I already responded its a bogus argument, no matter which why you frame it

and for some reason, the Obama supporters don't see the irony of crowing about the endorsements of a much older/longer political dynasty...

10. Half the country isn't male though...
There are always more male babies than female. I think nature does this because men take more testosterone fueled risks and die at a greater rate.

2. 10. However, one was there because somebody shot and killed a president and
another was there because the president was forced to resign. And of course, I more than twice your age.

6. That's depressing.
I don't know what's more depressing, that or being old enough to remember a time when the New Deal gave working Americans the best deal they ever had, a deal that allowed one parent to supply enough income to raise a family in decent housing with decent food and decent medical care, plus enough to save for college and retirement.

You've never seen that country. You've only seen a country in which working people are living paycheck to paycheck, afraid their jobs will be taken by someone overseas being paid in a cheap currency, afraid of getting sick, afraid of losing everything at any time for any reason.

I hope that at some time in the future you're able to live in a country that has replaced fear with hope. You deserve at least that much, but it may be some time until you get it.

15. Change to what? A candidate that promises he will hire rethugs...
in his administration? Scratch that -- a guy that has very little experience in federal govt that is so naive he promises to hire rethugs because the thinks that will make rethugs vote for him. As if they couldn't get that by voting for an actual rethug. LOL!

Welcome to politics, where the media ensures you have NO good choices.

18. I don't really like either of them too much, to be honest.
I was an Edwards supporter, and now i'm stuck between choosing the lesser of two uninspiring, pretty similar candidates, or perhaps just sitting out the primary and voting for the nominee in the GE.

14. Well, your choice is Hillary or a guy who promises to have rethugs...
in his cabinet. Not pretty, is it? I have to go with Hillary over a guy with little experience that is promising us he will hire rethugs in his administration. If I wanted a rethug administration I could always vote for the real thing, now couldn't I?

16. You sure are lucky Clinton was there when we needed him....
otherwise you would have spent your entire life with a Republican in office. Now it's time for a woman (Hillary Rodham)...who just happens to be married to a Clinton. Or you might prefer 8 years of Jeb and the 8 more years of his son...then maybe Jenna as the first woman president. lol Do you feel better now?

19. Hillary Rodham doesn't just HAPPEN to be a Clinton. It's the main reason why
she's a powerful figure in the party right now. Not the sole reason, mind you, but the main reason.

I'm thankful for Clinton's 8 years in office, but they're not enough to demand I do everything he tells me to.

The rest of your post made no sense. This year, we have more choices than just Bushes and Clintons--thank God.

17. Vote for Edwards no matter what.
A vote for Clinton or Obama is a vote for media control of our political life. You could vote for Kucinich or one of the others if you prefer.
