Clark… Gore… Biden… Edwards…
Who’s next?

You are not going to believe this but my new nominee was inspired by my children.

- Clark wasn’t running, and endorsed Clinton. That did nothing.

- Oprah endorsed Obama. That did nothing.

- Teddy and Caroline endorsed Obama. That moved me to tears. But I still preferred Edwards.

- My moderate Republican friends get excited about Obama. Still nothing.

- My teenagers join me in the den to watch MSNBC and CNN to catch up and check the latest polls. That takes my breath away.

Obama is not my perfect candidate. But he inspires my children to engage in the world around them, to explore issues. Whether this is the first politician to break their heart doesn’t really matter, because he also caused them to fall in love with their own power as citizens of this weirdly wonderful nation.

This inspiration in a cause can lead them to realize that they can do this on a smaller scale. Like how my devotion to getting Bill Clinton elected led to my running for volunteer positions. It changed my life. And for better or worse, Obama is changing theirs.

So - as much as I dislike uninformed, good-guy support, the man moves my kids. And my kids move me.

Senator Obama, thanks for the inspiration – the check’s in the mail.

1. Good move Fl5
We switched last week to Obama from Edwards FlDem-my wife and I talked this over last week and decided it was the best course of action-to throw our support and votes to Obama and to try and stop the Clinton Machine-Obama is the next best thing TO Edwards

3. I find the increasing identification of the president as a personification...
...of the country to be a disturbing trend. I don't like heros because they are always disappointments. I wish people would get the idea in their heads that self-government means that we do not put our hopes in our leaders or their ability to unite or inspire us. The president is the highest ranking civil servant and that is all. He does not replace the king that we fired. No one does. I also see this as an increasing trend toward one-man-rule. The Constitution gives primacy to Congress as the main policy branch of government. Really, the president's job is to do what Congress tells him. The plurality of the Congress was designed to protect us from arbitrary rule by the executive.

This is all very depressing. :-(
