We should hope that McCain gets the nomination
All day long, I've been hearing conservatives trashing McCain on various talk shows. Slimeball's anti-McCain rhetoric is well known, and he doesn't seem to be backing down a bit. On one of our local RW talk shows in Orlando, the host and a bunch of callers were slamming McCain. Many of them were saying they'd rather live through four years of either Hillary or Obama, and hope for a "true conservative" candidate in '12.

While McCain might appeal to many independent and "moderate" Democrats (DINOs if you ask me), it's very possible that most diehard conservatives will wind up sitting this election out. While he might attract some 'crossover' votes, I think that the vast majority of people in this country want real change, not merely someone who markets themselves as "GOP-lite".

Let the conservatives commit political suicide. I hope they sit this election out. These people are completely out of touch with the real world. Any candidate that they would endorse wholeheartedly is one that would alienate much of the country. They're looking for someone who is both corporate and evangelical? Good luck on that one, pals! Let us know how that works for you!

2. They'd rather regroup for 2012
They don't want to take a chance of eight years of McCain. Many of them would honestly rather go through 4 years of Hillary and take their chances in '12.

3. Be careful what you wish for -- in case it comes true! ...
"President McCain said that, given the IMMENSE progress that we have been making in Iraq thru calendar year 2011, he sees light at the end of the tunnel; looking ahead to his second term, he insists that the situation in Iraq should allow him to begin drawing down troops before the end of 2013, if all goes well ..."

4. don't think so
you're basing this on what people are saying during the primary, when people can vote for somebody else.

Wait 2 weeks, when McCain is the nominee, and if the same people are saying the same things then I'll agree with you.

I think they will be changing their tune, hasn't Hannity already changed his tune?

7. If McCain wins the nomination, then Democrats will just have to deal with it.
Just like a football team in the playoffs, you have to play the team that wins the other game instead of hoping the weaker opponent will win so you will have an easier game. If McCain wins, then that is who we will have to beat. There's no point in hand wringing about it so far in advance of the GE.

Democrats seem far more motivated than the Republicans to get out and support their candidate this year. I don't anticipate that things will magically be all sunshine and roses in November. I, for one, am very hopeful about a Democratic victory in November as well as increasing the leads in Congress. I have a 70 year old friend who bleeds Republican who says he will never vote for McCain--that is, unless the Democrats pick Senator Clinton, but he has no enthusiasm about it.

8. They may not vote for McCain
but they will come out to vote against Hillary and Obama. And I'm afraid that there will now be a lot of apathetic Democrats that will sit this one out.
I'm also afraid we're still likely to have a President named John, just not the one we needed.
I would have rather won the WhiteHouse than attempt to "make history" and fail at both.
