HRC's TX director:"upwardly mobile yuppies and African Americans.. don't vote on economics"

Former state Land Commissioner Garry Mauro of Austin, state director of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign, said Mrs. Clinton now will pull to her banner most of Mr. Edwards’ supporters in Texas.

“Edwards’ themes and his demographics are generally the same things Hillary’s been running on,” Mr. Mauro said, referring to Mr. Edwards’ emphasis on restoring the middle class and the economy. He then took a swipe at Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, Mrs. Clinton’s remaining rival for the Democratic nomination.

“His demographics tend to be upwardly mobile yuppies and African Americans, who don’t tend to be people who vote on economics,” Mr. Mauro. He predicted most low-income and blue-collar Texans will support Mrs. Clinton.

Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, who backs Mr. Obama, dismissed Mr. Mauro’s remarks as “spin.” Mr. Kirk said Texans’ desire for change and new leadership have made the Obama campaign competitive here.

2. I'm just surprised that no AA group has come out against the
comment about them not caring about economic issues.... the way he worded it I'm not sure if he meant "yuppie" AA's or AA's in general. Either way, has her camp not learned to maybe phrase their ethnic comments a little more carefully?

(donning flame suit).

3. Yeah, Clinton is going to be a real "UNITER" for this country
She has no inhibitions of burning down her own party just as long as she gets the nomination. Sickening.

4. Good god, they just can't stop themselves!
The Clinton campaign has clearly created a comfortable environment for these types of comments. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at some of their top-level strategy meetings. It's so frequent now that there's no question it's a top-down cultural thing with the campaign.
