A few questions for those who ask "Is America Ready to Elect a Black or Woman President?"
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 12:08 AM by EffieBlack
1) Who or what is this "America?" Does it include the black and female people who would like to be president?

2) How does "America" decide whether it's ready to elect a black or a female president? By committee? Show of hands? Secret code?

3) How does "America" communicate its decision about whether it's ready to elect a black or female President to the rest of us?

4) If "America" isn't yet ready to elect a black or female president, but eventually gets ready, how will this change in readiness be communicated to the rest of us? Email? Letter? Act of Congress?

5) What should all of the qualified black and female people who would like to be president do with their time while they wait to be notified that "America" is ready for them? Are there other positions that they will be allowed to hold in the meantime? Will "America" tell them what they are or should they just take a chance and hope they don't get it wrong and try to get another job that "America" isn't ready for them to have?

6) While qualified black and female people cool their heels on the sidelines waiting for notification that "America" is ready for them, are they allowed to ask why all manner of white men, no matter how incompetent, how unqualified, how useless, how ignorant are running for and getting elected president, yet no one ever seems to claim that "America" isn't ready for them.

7) Or does their pointing this out make them guilty of the ultimate transgression - "playing the race card" - which will piss of "America" - whoever it or he or she is - so much that they'll have to wait even longer for "America" to let them in the game?

Just wondering . . .

3. Can't nominate a black or a woman. Better get a white man 'cause white men NEVER lose elections
Oh - wait a minute.

Better come up with a better excuse than that.

7. When President McCain blows the limbs off the first Iranian child
you come back to me and tell me how important it was for you to have made your point.

9. So you think that the ONLY reason McCain might get elected is that he ran against a black or female?
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 12:19 AM by EffieBlack
Hmmm.

George Bush has blown the limbs off of thousands of children, thanks to the fact that he won (or stole) two elections. I had no idea that Al Gore and John Kerry were black or female (or were they black AND female)?

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of reasons that any particular candidate wins or loses against any other particular candidate. But I have a sneaking suspicion that, if Obama or Clinton is the nominee and they don't beat the Republican candidate, people like you will INSIST that the ONLY reason they didn't win is their race or gender - completely ignoring the fact that white men have been losing to other white men for centuries, so obviously being black or female is not the only possible reason someone can lose a presidential race. But that backward, tired and - yes, bigoted - argument makes a convenient (but lame) excuse for you to continue protecting the white male privilege.

But more and more of us are on to you and fewer and fewer of us are buying into your argument, so, thank God, your way of thinking is on its way out.

Buh-bye.

10. LOL
I'll tell you what my argument is. I saw in 2000 how people argued the same thing for a third party run. That run cost us the election and now as a result, over 1 million Iraqi people are dead.

The problem with "people like you" is you are too easily fooled. Progress means attacking the roots of the problem. You can't do that if you are unable to even address it. You can't do that if you are beholden to the problem. So the problem sold you a pipe dream. "Now is the time, can't you feel it?" Problem is that was just an illusion they sold you, and they paint the illusion. Once you are in the bag everything changes. The next illusion will be McCain surging. And just like they ignored John Edwards and then pronounced "he couldn't get his message out", they will pronounce "America wasn't ready".

4. Let's just keep letting Republicans win by nominating unelectable candidates
McCain will slaughter Obama from coast to coast. War hero vs Al Queda sympathizer. McCain won't even have to debate Barry.

5. Gee - I wonder how all those Democrats have lost in the past - they weren't black or female
And we all know that white men can't be beaten in an election - and if a black man or a woman runs it will mark the first time that Democrats have ever lost an election. Better not take a chance.

I'll bet this whole thing is making your head pop off. World's changing - better get used to it or you're going to be one miserable person.

12. Aye! I do too!
My Black Daughter is up at Harvard, waiting for "America" to give her a date as to when she will be able to aspire to as much as the qualified "real Americans". Hope someone sends her a note by the time she graduates from Law School. :(

14. America?
America doesn't win you elections, individual states do.

You have to ask yourself 3 questions.

1. Which people from which states are most likely to not want to vote for an African American.
2. From which party more than likely would those people come from?
3. Would those people from that party from that state have voted for a white Democrat?
