My last post on the "PRIMARIES" page.
In my quest for hard OBAMA information so as to see if I can bite the bullet and give him some support, I have gotten snide and nasty comments from his "supporters" directed at me personally and at Clinton, something I have not EVER done to Obama or his supporters.

Thanks. You make GREAT press for your guy. :sarcasm:

I wasn't a Hillary Clinton supporter either, but after being treated like a child or a political neophyte for not seeing the "wisdom" of devoting my life to Barack Obama, I would support her above him on General Principles only.

Congratulations. OH, and my wife thanks you too. You all made a great impression on someone who thought this site was full of shit to begin with: now she's convinced.

1. Due Respect: You need to grow a thicker Spiin
I have lerned the hard way that this forum is nothinging short of a political Mosh Pit.

I am an early and ardent Obama supporter. andwhile his speeches inspire me....I find his substance on his website.

I am pro-obama, and anti-clintin...Not because I have some personal animis torward her... but I believe she is a divisive and polarizing figure. It may be the GOP's doing but it is abell that can't be unrung. Her acendency at best will meab four years of getting nothing done.

I would take my chances with Obama because I think the downside risks with Clinton are just too large to ignore.

Please stay. We need open minded people

2. Well, you didn't want to go to his website and read up on his policy positions.
You just wanted it spoon fed to you. I didn't even comment on your other threads because if you aren't interested enough to go to his website and read his policy positions, why should I waste my time responding to you?

10. He won't even go to the website because he thinks he has to sign up.
All he has to do is click on the link that says to continue to website. He doesn't have to sign up on the mailing list.

All the campaign websites do this.

It seems to me he's just making excuses for not wanting to find out more about Obama. Plenty of supporters have given him information and he's still complaining.

One person gave him a direct link to the issues page.

4. How lame is it to base who you'll vote for on what posters in GDP
do or don't do, say or don't say? I can't even imagine basing my decision on that. '

And you've been throughly nasty and entitled and demanding. Vote for whoever you want to, but don't make the mistake of believing you're so important that it matters.

6. You base your vote on how you are treated on a message board
and refuse to do your homework. The scary thing is that there are a lot of people like you out there with similar criteria. God save us all!

11. How about picking a candidate based on your own careful study?
Obama is not his supporters; neither is Clinton.

While they both share similar views on many issues, there are some differences. Obama is more progessive on ethics reform and the war in Iraq. Clinton has a better economic and trade policy.

It's not really fair or smart to decide who to vote for based on a candidate's "supporters." After all, you really don't know if they are true supporters or just trolls.

My .02 cents...

12. www.BarackObama.com
This is where to go for information about Obama's positions: www.barackobama.com

You can also find lots of useful information on wikipedia.

Especially here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Barack_Obama

Sometimes you will find wrong info on wikipedia, but most of it is accurate.

13. Tyler, I saw several thoughtful posts in your threads
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 08:29 AM by FLDem5
and I even tried to give you my opinion and some information, yet you only replied to the obnoxious posts.

I just googled Obama iraq troops home and found this (from last year) it pretty much sums up his Iraq plan. It wasn't hard. To change your vote based on the moronic comments on this board from militant Obama/Clinton supporters is too silly for you.

http://obama.senate.gov/press/070130-obama_offers_pl_1/index.php

The Obama plan offers a responsible yet effective alternative to the President's failed policy of escalation. Realizing there can be no military solution in Iraq, it focuses instead on reaching a political solution in Iraq, protecting our interests in the region, and bringing this war to a responsible end. The legislation commences redeployment of U.S. forces no later than May 1, 2007 with the goal of removing all combat brigades from Iraq by March 31, 2008, a date that is consistent with the expectation of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

The plan allows for a limited number of U.S. troops to remain as basic force protection, to engage in counter-terrorism, and to continue the training of Iraqi security forces. If the Iraqis are successful in meeting the thirteen benchmarks for progress laid out by the Bush Administration, this plan also allows for the temporary suspension of the redeployment, provided Congress agrees that the benchmarks have been met and that the suspension is in the national security interest of the United States.

15. Thank you for a thoughtful reply
You are doing what I think any supporter of a candidate should do--you are giving information. This is great practice for when you are out in the real world, talking with an undecided voter face to face. And this face to face work is what needs to be done if we are going to win over undecideds in the real world. And that is where it really matters.

14. Perhaps part of
the problem stems from the the way you posed your request. I say this as someone who respects you, and I have no interest in trying to influence who you will support in the primary. But I noted that you had taken a "convince me" stance, and then outlined your requirements of what other people needed to do, and what you would refuse to do.

I never respond to any of the "convince me" threads that pop up on DU, even when posted by people I like. The truth is that we are all responsible for making up our own minds. That includes being responsible for searching out the information that we need, and not expecting others to do that for us. Closely related to that is doing our own research, because we should not take other people's opinions as our own.

Any time a person relies upon outside influences to convince them, then their opinion is based upon outside influences, rather than having the truth take root within them. And if the past 7 years have taught democrats nothing else, they should have learned that there is nothing so merciless as the logic of truth. We are paying a heck of a price today because of people allowing others to do the "thinking" for them, especially in the sense of letting others feed them the information they will base their opinions on.

One of the things that started this unhealthy trend was television. It allows people, from a young age, to sit back and have the information/entertainment delivered to them, as they sit passively. It has had a seriously negative impact upon people. Too many citizens have lost sight of what their rights and responsibilities are, and have become passive critics/consumers.

Each one of us has not only the right and the ability to research and find out about each candidate for ourselves, but we have that responsibility. It is an error in perception to place that responsibility with others.

17. Looks like you're stuck, Tyler....
After 1,2383 posts, you've discovered what countless others must already have... talk is cheap, and sometimes, really cheap. Look further and you'll see thoughtful posts here.

Reading up thread, there appears to be some thoughtful responses, mixed in with the "buck up, little cowboy" ones. I'm discovering this happens both in and out of the electronic world.

So, some people in the "world" behave like dip shits.... Yes sir... Some do!
