Last night when Anderson Cooper brought up the Sandra Day O'Connor question:
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 11:25 AM by Hawaii Hiker
First off, Anderson Cooper was pathetic when he acted like that f-ing Reagan diary was some holy grail (well, guess to the right wing fanatics it is the holy grail), did you hear him, he was like "I'm almost afraid touch it"...Come on Anderson, thought you were better than that, :banghead: :banghead:

Anderson was referring to something in Reagan's diary when he asked each candiate the question "was Sandra Day O'Connor the correct choice for SCOTUS"?.....Each candiate was afraid to criticize the appointment, EXCEPT for Romney, who said that he'd appoint people like Roberts, Thomas, Scalia, & Ailito...

This is one area where all the Republican candiates are similar, the type of Supreme Court appointments they'd make....Even if McCain (who is the least radical of the remaining nominees) makes that appointment, do you think it will be a moderate justice??...Of course not, he'll try to find the most far right person he can....The ONLY saving grace is that the Democrats should control the senate again in 2009, so hopefully no far right idealogues would get appointed....But then again, there will be a mid-term election in 2010, so who knows how long Democrats can keep control of the senate....

Back to Romney's answer last night...All conservatives are the same; they act like ONLY Roberts, Scalia, Ailito, & Thomas follow the law accordingly & the others (Breyer, Ginsburg, Stevens, Kennedy, & Souter) somehow make up the law as they go long, calling them "activist judges"...That's conservative spin & BS for you, when the justice favors the conservative position on any issue, like the first 4 judges I mentioned do, they are good justices, if they tend to have a liberal to moderate position, they are "activist" judges....

NOTHING scares me more than old man McCain or knit-witt Mitt Romney making a Supreme Court appointment to replace Stevens, Ginsburg, Breyer, or Souter.....That should scare any Democrat or independent from staying home in November if their candiate is not the nominee....

4. Jonathan Turley.....Wow! He would be great!
Justice Turley.

I've seen him on KO a lot. I like the way he breaks a law or ruling down so that even a layperson like myself can understand what it means.....

7. Or Lawrence Tribe, who Clinton passed over twice.
Tribe is top-notch and he is featured in those national media ads Obama has been running.

9. He could do more in three years to turn back the Bush assault on the
Constitution than anyone else could in ten.

Besides, he's only 65 and I'm pushing that myself, so . . .

Who you calling OLD?! :)

2. The seriousness of this issue
and who will be seated on the Supreme Court is one that most Americans do not appreciate. In fact, I believe the make up of the SC is one of the most critical issues of this election. The next President may have the opportunity to select several justices.

3. I remember Gore stressing it in 2000 and Nader poo-poo-ing it
It's crucial! It's why I am voting dem in November no matter who is the nominee.

6. Dems need to turn the issue around.
There is no reason HRC or Obama can't come out right now and say they are AGAINST activist judges. Activist judges like those who choose presidents or repeal the bill of rights.
