Looks like I may not go to the Democratic Convention after all.
Since I live in the Hartford, CT, area, only about two hours from Boston, I've thought about driving up to Beantown for a day in July to check out at least some of the Democratic Convention. But after a story I heard on "Free Speech Radio News," I may end up keeping away.

Seems the Boston P.D. has been working without a union contract for the last several months. If the negotiations haven't been worked out by July, the Police Union plans to picket outside the convention center. If they do so, then I won't be going to Boston. I was raised in a family that was passionately pro-labor. As such, I will *not* cross a picket line for any reason!

Sorry, folks....

1. oh NOOOOO!!!!!!
A scene at the Convention is just what we need to totally sink our chances. It'll be like '68 all over again. Do they want Bush to win again? I mean, if the police are getting hosed they shouldn't roll over and play dead but why picket the convention? I tell you, if it were the NYPD workin' without a contract and threatening to strike and picket, Bush would order them back to work.

3. In what possible way could it be like '68?
In '68, armed police attacked demonstrators. Here, the police will be the demonstrators. Are you planning to attack them? Are you armed?

We may be Democrats, but let us try very hard not to be jackasses.

5. OK - I see your point
But the Massachusetts gov. could call in the National Guard (if they aren't all in Iraq).

Besides, it will just look bad, all those police picketing - it'll look they're protesting the Democrats. We'll lose the labor vote & the law enforcement vote.

2. Picket Democrats?? That doesn't make sense. Picket Republicans - Bush in
particular - is what they need to do.

4. we need to make it like 68 the so called "democratic" party
has set up "free speech zones" well away from the convention. It is a violation of the constitution and a copying of the shrub's tactics. If they copy his tactics how do we tell the difference?
