Limbaugh has a filthy mind...
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 01:12 PM by RUFUS_T_FIREFLY
Just before a break (about 45 minutes ago) he is talking about Kerry not really having any support, and he's trying to finish what he's saying before the break, and he says the Democrats "have shot their wad."

Eeeeewwww!

Wonder if I should complain to the FCC about this smut on the air...

4. *lol* I had a pastor who used to say that all the time, I don't think he
knew what it meant. I think he thought it was a reference to spitting out a wad of chew (he was a huge baseball fan) and I always had the HARDEST time not cracking up when he said it...he was such a good guy *lol*

6. That actually means
to expend all your resources, spend all your money, etc.

The slang expression is the vulgar one.

Sad that it's the most well-known was. My what heights society has soared to. :puke:

7. It's actually an old firearm term.
"shooting your wad" is a reference to old black-powder muzzle-loading firearms, which used a wad to separate the black powder and the bullet when the bullet is manually rammed down the barrel.

"shooting your wad" denotes a premature firing, where you've dumped the powder charge down the barrel, placed the wad, but then forgot to put the bullet in and "ram it home" with the ramrod.

A lot of gun terminology has become risque or perverse. For example, phrases like "going off half-cocked" (for premature ejaculation), "shooting blanks" and "squib" (for "neutered") are all gun terms. Of course, some "dirty" terms have become gun terms. On old black powder muzzle loaders, the piece you put the primer on is called, in technical terms, the "nipple". No kidding.

8. Well, a gun is kinda phallic anyway.
Don't have to be Freud to see a connection.

15. speak for yourself....
I don't see much phallic about guns....of course, I handle guns daily, instead of just thinking about them and being afraid of them.

9. uh..rufus...our mom says that all the time.
i'm sure she doesn't know what it means. kind of like the time she said "twat" and i, who was driving at the time, almost swerved into traffic. i had to explain that, no, that isn't another term for butt but something else near the butt.

17. "Twat" ... very funny...
...that reminds me of the concerned mother at our college freshman orientation (many moon ago) who kept asking about how the students in our co-ed dorm coped when other students got "Horny".

She kept asking that, to the embarrassment of both the new students and the other parents, until it finally became clear that she thought that it just meant "Rowdy". :D

13. Because newscasters say this a lot, actually
I remember a conversation along these lines not too long ago when a newscaster used the term and a friend of mine freaked.

14. The expression is an old one and not vulgar, at all.
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 01:42 PM by Dhalgren
In muzzle loading guns a "wad" of paper or cloth is put in between the powder and the ball, or "shot". If someone inadvertently fires their weapon without having placed a ball, they will have "shot their wad". It means that they have to begin all over with this firing being ineffectual. I loath Rush, but this isn't a vulgar expression.

18. Doesn't it depend on intent?
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 02:15 PM by RUFUS_T_FIREFLY
I mean, the phrase IS used in a sexual context sometimes. Like "Who's your daddy?" can be an innocent question or a rather kinky one. Bad example, but I'm at work and can't think right now.

Besides, a woman's breast is INTENDED to nurse children, but people got all upset over Janet's being exposed for a split second. People even get upset over women nursing their babies in public, but THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE FOR! :-)
