IF we win by 57 electoral votes can we claim a mandate to do
whatever the hell we please? Worked for Bush.

Personally, I'd like to see forced to wear a bell around his neck so right thinking people could avoid them like the plague.

And yeah, I include my in-laws in that.

2. We would have a better case than Bush
who didn't win by 57 electoral votes but I think he had only 271 which is one more than necessary while Gore had 266.

4. I beleive you are right about 2000. I was just looking at some of
the projections of possible EC results this year.

Yes, we could claim a mandate; no it didn't work for Bush. He claimed a mandate with a 5 electoral vote margin.
