Bush selling the Lincoln Bedroom
During the 2000 presidential campaign, George W. Bush sanctimoniously accused Clinton of "virtually renting out the Lincoln bedroom to big campaign donors." He condemned the use of the "hallowed" chamber for political payoffs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Republicans and independent watchdog groups decried the practice -- going as far back as the months leading up to the 1996 election -- saying the president's choice to allow campaign contributors to slumber on such hallowed ground soiled the institution of the presidency, and the sanctity of the White House.

The bedroom was one of a number of related fund-raising gaffes, which many Republicans denounced as intentional and willful manipulations of campaign finance laws.

----------------------------------------------------------------------Republicans were calling last night on Janet Reno, the US Attorney General, to appoint an independent investigator to examine the claims. Roy Schotland, a law professor, said it was illegal to use the White House for "other than government purposes". He added: "The first law the President violated was Jimmy Durante's law, 'Say it with roses, say it with mink, but never, ever, say it with ink'.

Remember what they said when Clinton did it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Forbes, the publisher who ran against Mr Clinton in the White house race, said: "I don't think Republican presidents ever treated the revered bedroom like a hotel room, and a very expensive room at that."

----------------------------------------------------------------------
“Mrs. Clinton obviously has no respect for the office of the Presidency and the White House itself, and is willing to sell anything for a cheap buck. It’s no wonder she hasn’t tried to sell the President, who obviously himself is prone to go to the highest bidder. Judicial Watch, which sparked the campaign finance scandal through the October, 1996 testimony of John Huang in its case against the Clinton-Gore Commerce Department, has already filed FOIA requests and expects to soon file a lawsuit to fully uncover the latest Clinton bribery scheme,” stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.

6. Here's what I posted in another thread:
<snip>
Republican Rep. Rick Lazio's campaign has accused Mrs. Clinton of a "blatant abuse of power" by having donors spend the night.

"History is again repeating itself and has reached a new low," Lazio campaign manager Bill Dal Col said last week. "The use of the Lincoln Bedroom and Camp David as accommodations for campaign 'supporters' is nothing less than a taxpayer funded abuse of power, and is yet another example of why New Yorkers can't trust Hillary Clinton."

The Clinton administration was criticized after the 1996 campaign for inviting big donors to spend the night. Republicans in Congress, along with some less partisan critics, complained that the practice dulled the majesty of the White House.

here's the link to the article:http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2000/09/22/politics/main235593.shtml

Now let's see if anyone in the wrong wing accuses pResident Bush of "dulling the majesty of the White House" or of "taxpayer funded abuse of power"
