Future plans for Minnesota Kucitizens
We had a sort of debriefing and planning meeting last night, and about twice as many people as usual showed up. I didn't count, but there were somewhere between 50 and 100 people.

Most of them had been elected delegates from their precincts, and some of them had volunteered for state senate district committees.

We had someone there who was our DFL "expert consultant," and he gave us some tips for making our presence known on the local level and making our way up the food chain in the DFL. He emphasized that we had done all we could to get Dennis some national delegates (either 8 or 9, depending on what happens when the last precincts report) and that now we needed to move Dennis' agenda up through the state party system.

The Kucitizens were not the only group promoting an agenda of international cooperation in the precinct caucuses. A Twin Cities coalition known as "Peace in the Precincts" introduced resolutions at as many precincts as possible, and reports were that most of them passed in most of the precincts.

Our consultant urged us to join forces with the Peace in the Precincts delegates and with others pushing a progressive agenda, no matter whom they supported in the presidential preference ballot, since there is nothing more we can do to get Dennis national delegates. These groups should cooperate to send delegates to the next level and to get their members on committees.

My own observation from afar in Oregon was that the DFL desperately needs some revitalization and that the Republicanites were able to triumph in many areas because the DFL had grown complacent and Establishment-like, and therefore boring. Let's hope that this infusion of Kucitizens and Peace in the Precincts types and labor activists and representatives of ethnic groups gets the party back to its roots as the advocate for ordinary people.

1. Amen, Lydia.
DFLers took their power for granted, and got soft. Repukes came in with "fresh" ideas (actually the stale old Reagan-era retreads), and it's paid off for them. They've hoodwinked a whole lot of people.

3. In the late 1940s
the Democratic Party of Minnesota merged with the Farmer-Labor Party, a socialist-leaning group. Since then it has been known as the DFL.

It makes for symmetrical headlines: DFL vs. GOP.

4. Wasn't so dumb after all..
That's an interesting bit of history... thanks for the explanation!

Too bad, though, that the socialist part got lost in the shuffle.... sigh....

I appreciate knowing what your doing now to continue. That's where it will all come together. To Boston and beyond! :)

We're still preparing for our caucus. I was out bannering today, with a friend, and we got some people who are now willing to caucus, who weren't before. Not a huge accomplishment, but little by little.... :)

If Dennis can keep going, so can we! :)

Kanary

Another Delusional Diehard for Dennis!!

Kucinich 2004!
