Bush already blinked - the "debates" issue

Wasn't there a lot of flak when Gore said he would debate W anytime, anywhere, and then W tried to frame the debates his way, and the Repukes tried to say that he backed down?

Yes, to an extent, Gore did not immediately debate.

But now, Bush is shirking from the challenge by saying "Kerry needs to get it straight where he stands before he debates me."

Bush is afraid to debate Kerry. If he had any of the balls that his sycophants claim he has (for invading Iraq), then he would act like the candidate in 2000 that he tried to pretend he was.

If he truly believed that he could trip Kerry up in the debates with the "flip-flopping" and the "Bush Logic", then he would be gunning for a debate. Kerry should be saying "Anybody who has plenty of time to go all over the country attending fundraisers, and when not doing that, taking a long weekend off, should have time to debate!"

Along the same lines, if Clinton and Gore were truly to blame for the errors leading up to 9/11, then they would be afraid to face the inquisition. Yet they have said "You will have all the time you want from us."

Bush has said:

"Nope. Not gonna do it."

"Okay, I'll do it, but I'll only give you an hour, and I get a potty break and get to wear my earpiece."

"Okay, I'll do it for more than an hour."

they have little to win and everything to lose. it is always the challenger that wants all debates all the time. i think this is pretty well understood conventional wisdom. * won't be hurt by reluctance to debate.

He has such fear of debating Kerry...if they really thought that Kerry was VULNERABLE on the charge of flip-flopping, they would want to EXPLOIT it, not give him the opportunity to think about it and alter his approach or whatever before the debates...

Gore held back so he wouldn't look like a bully beating up on the "new guy".

Now, after 3 years of *'s bluster, the Repugs can no longer use the "soft bigotry of low expectations" and Kerry will have nothing to lose by turning him into mincemeat.

I'll bet there will be no more than 3 debates, and they'll be loaded with conditions.
